Nokia N8 filmed feature film “Olive” hits theaters this month

This week we're to understand that not only has a filmmaker taken it upon himself to film an entire movie with only a set of Nokia N8 smartphones, it'll be released in theaters soon, too! This movie goes by the name Olive and will bring a story of "a little girl who transforms the lives of three people without speaking one word" to the big screen having been filmed in its entirety by a Nokia N8 smartphone double-taped to a set of traditional film-camera lenses. The director of this film, Hooman Khalili, does admit he had to hack the smartphone to turn the auto-focus and auto-zoom off to make it all work - beyond that it's nothing but Nokia greatness in the clicker!

Nokia N8-01 spied in new pics and video

Nokia is working hard to get some of the market share back that it has lost in the smartphone world. The company has a long road to go since it has fallen significantly behind in the smartphone realm. One of the smartphones that has been rumored in the past is called the Nokia 801 or the Nokia N8-01 smartphone. Previously the phone had been tipped as the N9, but the phone in these photos doesn't look like the phone said to be the N9 or N8-02 we spied back in July.

Symbian UI refresh previewed on Nokia N8

Symbian UI refresh previewed on Nokia N8

What looks to be the new Symbian homescreen layout has been briefly previewed, ahead of the promised Nokia update later in 2011. Shown briefly during a presentation by Nokia SVP of smartphones Jo Harlow, the refreshed UI - demonstrated on an N8 - has a slimmed down status bar with Android/iOS-style operator, battery, signal and time iconography, and a much narrower call/menu/options bar at the bottom.

In-between there are new widgets, no longer imprisoned by the traditional blocks fitting six to a screen. Instead it all looks more flexible and streamlined, taking a leaf out of Android's book. The end result is a far more modern looking smartphone, with a UI that actually begins to live up to the N8's slick aluminum chassis.

Nokia N8 shoots pics for PiX Magazine cover

Being a full time tech geek is a pretty sweet gig and typically, I think I have it pretty good. I get to play with gadgets and spend my days getting paid for doing things I would do even if I had a real job and getting dressed up only involves wearing pants. As cool as being a pro geek is, the sweetest gig ever would have to be a fashion photographer. You get to hang out with hot chicks all day after all.

Nokia N8 vibe motor shows its strength in bizarre refrigerator stunt [Video]

It's not entirely clear why you'd want to prove that the Nokia N8's vibration motor is capable - with some suitable gearing - of lifting a 60kg+ refrigerator, but that's just what some Chinese engineers have decided to prove. As you can see in the video after the cut, having dismantled the Symbian smartphone (something we already know is pretty straightforward) they then turned to the awesome power of whiteboard calculations to get the fridge off the ground.

Nokia N8 power problems officially acknowledged [Video]

Nokia has acknowledged some issues with its N8 smartphone, which sees the Symbian^3 handset refusing to power on correctly. According to Nokia EVP Niklas Savander, the issue affects "a limited number of N8 users" who are finding their phones either won't turn on or won't turn off; Savander says Nokia has identified that the fault lies with "the way we assemble the engines."
