Nokia accused of “a witch hunt” against Murtazin

The Nokia/mobile-review controversy continues, with Russian journalist Eldar Murtazin making an official statement on what he describes as "a witch hunt" designed to discredit him.  After finding last week that Nokia had called in the Russian authorities to retrieve any prototype devices from Murtazin, something which Nokia then claimed was in response to ignored official requests for their return, the mobile-review editor now says that he never actually had an N8 in his possession; in actual fact, he merely spent periodic hands-on time with someone else's prototype.  Therefore, he insists, there's nothing left to hand over.

Nokia: We asked nicely for the leaked N8 back, but Murtazin refused [Updated]

Nokia: We asked nicely for the leaked N8 back, but Murtazin refused [Updated]

Nokia has given us an official comment on the report that they have enlisted the help of Russian authorities to take mobile-review to task, and it seems the Finns weren't so much upset with what was mentioned in the N8 preview but with the fact that Eldar Murtazin wouldn't give them the prototype handset back.  "Several weeks back" Nokia told us "we formally requested the return of all unauthorized Nokia property from Mr. Murtazin and he declined to respond."

Nokia “Catwalk” and “Lazer” bring Windows Phone 8 a full metal jacket

Nokia “Catwalk” and “Lazer” bring Windows Phone 8 a full metal jacket

Though Nokia's Lumia lineup hasn't thus far been called the thinnest or most hardcore on the market at any point in its short history, it all might change soon with two new models named "Catwalk" and "Lazer". Spoken about under-cover over this past week internationally, both handsets are being tipped to take the bits and pieces in the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia 808 PureView that people don't like and toss them out. Left will be a couple of handsets that set the minds of the consumer public on fire - wildfire!

Nokia EOS to sport aluminum body, waterproof nano coating

Nokia EOS to sport aluminum body, waterproof nano coating

We've heard ramblings of Nokia's upcoming rumored flagship before, known as the "EOS" or "Catwalk." This time around, we're hearing some really interesting tidbits of about the phone, most particularly that it'll come with an aluminum outer shell, and will be waterproof thanks to a special nano coating from P2i, which is a partnership that the company's allegedly worked out at Mobile World Congress last week.

Check these 3 phablets coming in 2013 from Samsung, Nokia, and Huawei

Check these 3 phablets coming in 2013 from Samsung, Nokia, and Huawei

It's phablet day across the world as tipsters pointing toward three new elephant-sized smartphone devices leak a Nokia Lumia Juggernaut (code-name), an 8.5-inch Huawei un-named unit, and the Samsung Galaxy Note III. The Samsung unit is what we'd vote Most Likely to Succeed - or in this case Most Likely to Exist - in 2013 as each time a new Samsung Galaxy Note (non-tablet-sized) has been released thus far, it's gotten bigger than the last iteration. After that we've got to put our skeptic goggles on tight for all the salt that's flying our way.

Nokia seeks Linux engineer, Android crowd goes wild

Nokia seeks Linux engineer, Android crowd goes wild

A Nokia job listing [since taken down] has been discovered seeking a Senior Engineer with Linux expertise, rather than Windows Phone experience, this leading the Android masses to have a freak-out-festival about the possibilities of a Google OS Nokia device. At the moment it's a nearly all-Microsoft party at Nokia with the latter shaking hands heavily with the former for the launch of Windows Phone 8 with devices like the Nokia Lumia 920, a hero for the operating system. With a Linux expert on their team, (not that Nokia doesn't already have engineers with such expertise), it would appear that Nokia is attempting to keep their ties with Android at least a possible future plan - but clues are dubious at best.

Elop: Nokia smartphone sale rumors are tired and baseless

Elop: Nokia smartphone sale rumors are tired and baseless

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has denied reports that the Finnish company is set to sell its smartphone division to Microsoft, suggesting the speculation is the work of tech gossips running short on material. "The rumors are baseless, and some people who seem to enjoy generating rumors are running out of fresh material, so it seems to have come up again" Elop told PCMag, referring to - but not naming - critical mobile insider Eldar Murtazin, who has been primarily responsible for fueling the rumor-mill. In fact, Elop insists, "significant synergies" between Nokia's divisions mean a split simply wouldn't make sense.

Microsoft’s Nokia smartphone division acquisition tipped imminent

Microsoft’s Nokia smartphone division acquisition tipped imminent

Rumors of Microsoft buying Nokia's smartphone division have resurfaced, with claims that the key execs at the firms will meet in Las Vegas imminently to finalize the sale. Steve Ballmer and Andy Lees from Microsoft and Stephen Elop and Kai Oistamo from Nokia plan to transfer the smartphone section over, where it would be run under a new Microsoft-led name not as Nokia, arch insider Eldar Murtazin has claimed today, leaving the Finnish firm pushing a portfolio of dumbphones and would-be smartphone alternatives.
