Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 Windows Phone devices leaked

Before tomorrow's big Nokia keynote in which Stephen Elop is set to drop some heavy bombs, a couple of them appear to have left the hatch a bit early. Photos here show both the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Nokia Lumia 710, both of them set to run Windows Phone in some form or another. The first of these two, the 800, is also known as the Sea Ray in previous reports, while the 710 has previously been code-named Sabre. Both devices appear to be set to launch in European markets this November with a USA launch date set for next year.

Nokia N8-01 spied in new pics and video

Nokia N8-01 spied in new pics and video

Nokia is working hard to get some of the market share back that it has lost in the smartphone world. The company has a long road to go since it has fallen significantly behind in the smartphone realm. One of the smartphones that has been rumored in the past is called the Nokia 801 or the Nokia N8-01 smartphone. Previously the phone had been tipped as the N9, but the phone in these photos doesn't look like the phone said to be the N9 or N8-02 we spied back in July.

Symbian-based SYMBEOSE axed before EU splashes its €22m

Remember SYMBEOSE? The open-source project prompted no shortage of scratched heads late last year, when the European Commission revealed it planned to inject €22m ($31m) into turning Symbian into the "Embedded Operating System for Europe." Now, with Symbian's future well off Nokia's long term to-do list, it's been confirmed that the SYMBEOSE plans have been scrapped, and thankfully before a Euro has been spent.

Nokia 3D Communicator tipped in dual-display phone/tablet patent app

Nokia 3D Communicator tipped in dual-display phone/tablet patent app

Nokia is exploring a dual-screen clamshell smartphone design that, like the Nintendo 3DS, would have both 2D and 3D displays. According to a patent application by the company, titled "Autostereoscopic Rendering and Display Apparatus", the smartphone would have a glasses-free 3D display on its top panel and a regular 2D display underneath. A dual-camera array would be used to track eye position, creating an interactive 3D UI that could be controlled either via touching the bottom display (as on the 3DS) or via finger-tracking in 3D space.

Nokia Culls Symbian, Gently

Nokia Culls Symbian, Gently

Every big player threw their towel in behind one of the operating systems being developed for handheld devices. It just hasn't been until now that the big guys have really gone down for the count, or has he? Nokia confirms that their smartphone OS, Symbian, will be going the way of OS/2 Warp, BeOs and Meego. But never fear, they are legally obligated to provide support for at least the next couple of years, which means by the time anyone notices, you'll already have a new Windows Phone in your hands.

Nokia N950 MeeGo phone named: “very elegant hardware” says CTO [Video]

Nokia CTO Rich Green has seemingly named the company's first MeeGo device, the Nokia N950, set to launch later in 2011. Speaking at Nokia's Developer Day keynote last week, My Nokia Blog caught Green on camera suggesting that coders "should look at this as the successor to the N900, the N950." The name differs from Nokia's current nomenclature scheme, but follows directly from the Maemo-based N900 launched back in 2009.
