Nokia Asha 501 hands-on

Nokia Asha 501 hands-on

Take Nokia's estimable skills in crafting solid, affordable smartphones, a dash of MeeGo-learned interface know-how, and a motivating desperation to own the developing market, and you get this, the Nokia Asha 501. First of the new Asha Touch series, and toting an ambitious $99 (pre-tax and subsidy) sticker, the Asha 501 does what Nokia would argue only it can: distill the build quality and usability of a Lumia into something with the mass market reach of an Asha. The 501 makes its debut in India today, but SlashGear caught up with Nokia last week to find out exactly what makes it special.

Nokia CEO faces investor revolt: “Switch to another road” is demand

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop faces renewed criticism from shareholders this week, with attendees at the annual general meeting mincing no words in demanding the Finnish firm reconsider its devotion to Windows Phone. Elop conceded during the investor event that the Nokia leadership "make adjustments as we go," but insisted that Lumia and Windows Phone remained the best way forward, Reuters reports. That confidence wasn't enough to placate outspoken critics, however, with one questioning whether the chief exec was "aware that results are what matter."

Nokia “Catwalk” and “Lazer” bring Windows Phone 8 a full metal jacket

Though Nokia's Lumia lineup hasn't thus far been called the thinnest or most hardcore on the market at any point in its short history, it all might change soon with two new models named "Catwalk" and "Lazer". Spoken about under-cover over this past week internationally, both handsets are being tipped to take the bits and pieces in the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia 808 PureView that people don't like and toss them out. Left will be a couple of handsets that set the minds of the consumer public on fire - wildfire!

Nokia tipped to bring 41 megapixel sensor to standard smartphones (again)

This tip comes from "sources close to the Finnish handset maker" and is indeed appearing to us to be just about as incredible as it may seem to you. What we'll likely see instead is a continuation of the Nokia Lumia 920's high-powered camera technology rather than the beast that is the lens configuration on the 808 - let's have a chat about why.
