Connection issues reported on some Nokia Lumia 900 smartphones

To say the hopes pinned to the Nokia Lumia 900 are high would be an understatement. AT&T is relying on the Lumia 900 selling well to help offset some of the profits it has lost since the iPhone went to wide availability on other networks. Microsoft is counting on the device to help increase the popularity of its Windows Phone operating system. At the same time, Nokia is praying that the phone will be popular and help it big out of the smartphone slump it's been in for years.

Nokia Lumia 900 vs iPhone 4: The $99 Showdown

Nokia Lumia 900 vs iPhone 4: The $99 Showdown

Big news today is Nokia's US re-entry, with the Lumia 900 scoring some cautiously congratulatory reviews - ours included - at an ambitious AT&T price point and the heft of Microsoft behind it. Of course, the LTE Lumia goes up against a serious smartphone heavyweight, with Apple's iPhone 4 dominating the same $99 niche. It may be the last-gen model, but the iPhone 4 is still a mighty popular device and the iOS and App Store combination makes for a strong argument. Strap on your smartphone helmets, people, it's time to get competitive.

Nokia Lumia 900 review

Nokia Lumia 900 review

Over the last year Nokia's had something of a tumultuous time in the mobile industry. While still a power to be feared in the featurephone market, their lack of presence in the smartphone market has been keenly felt. With T-Mobile's Lumia 710 as a prelude, the Finnish giant makes a return in earnest with the Lumia 900 on AT&T's LTE network. Its features and design are immediately attractive, but perhaps more so is the price: just $99 on-contract, or free for new AT&T customers. Can a combination of great design, high-end features and price make a bold statement for Nokia? Let's find out.

New Nokia MeeGo duo tipped for Next Billion

New Nokia MeeGo duo tipped for Next Billion

Nokia is reportedly planning a further two MeeGo handsets, following the N9 with a pair of low-end devices that will slot into the company's Next Billion strategy for developing markets. The news, supposedly shared with them directly from a source in the Next Billion Group itself NetbookNews reports, would come as some relief to MeeGo fans, who had seen Nokia marginalize the platform in its smartphone push out of preference for Windows Phone.

Right price, spec, buzz… so how will AT&T, Microsoft and Nokia screw up the Lumia 900?

Right price, spec, buzz… so how will AT&T, Microsoft and Nokia screw up the Lumia 900?

Back in January, in the aftermath of Nokia revealing the Lumia 900 Windows Phone flagship, we argued that AT&T should price the smartphone at $100 at the most if it wanted to compete with the iPhone. Today, the carrier confirmed that it would indeed be undercutting most new handsets with a $99.99 price point - albeit with a two-year price plan - ticking off at least one box against the new Lumia's launch. Nonetheless, there are still plenty of pitfalls ahead if AT&T, Nokia and Microsoft don't want it to be game over for Windows Phone.

Microsoft Store locations no longer taking Lumia 900 pre-orders

Microsoft is so pleased with its new Nokia partnership that it began taking pre-orders for the Nokia Lumia 900 at its retail locations last week, even though there hasn't been a release date announced for the phone. However, the pre-order process has come to an end, and it's unclear if this is because of high demand or if the company decided to pull out of the process for some other reason. Like, perhaps, because it wanted to actually have a release date to give to customers.

Nokia Lumia 910 set for Mobile World Congress 2012

This year in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress 2012, we're likely to see a brand new Nokia "high-end" device announced and detailed. Forbes has learned from an industry source they trust that MWC 2012 will play host to Nokia's newest smartphone, one that they're saying will "run an unusual software feature normally found only on high-end smartphones." It's quite likely that this means the camera, rumored to be 12 megapixels strong on the rumored Nokia Lumia 910, will be ready for action.
