Motorola’s Nexus 6 sales trigger angst; UK prices confirmed

Motorola’s Nexus 6 sales trigger angst; UK prices confirmed

Motorola has begun sales of the Nexus 6, while Google has confirmed pricing for the much-anticipated smartphone in the UK. Unsurprisingly, given the Android Lollipop device's relatively high cost - at least from what we're used to from a Nexus - in the US, those in the UK won't be getting a cheap phone. Meanwhile, in a move that seems destined to prompt no small amount of ire among would-be Nexus owners, Motorola is keeping its stock secrets until the very end.

Google to release Nexus 6 stock each Wednesday

Google to release Nexus 6 stock each Wednesday

Almost as quickly as it went up for sale, the Nexus 6 was out of stock. A confusing scenario, we wondered just what was going on. Did Google shut down orders until they could parse the first batch? Was there just a limited quantity? Did that many people really want a phone with a 6-inch screen?! We were all in the dark, but it seems at least one of those questions was right. Google’s quantity of Nexus 6 smartphones seems to be trickling in, and in limited quantities.

Nexus 9 teardown: you’re going to need a case

Nexus 9 teardown: you’re going to need a case

HTC may have put the Nexus 9 on a deep discount today, but that won’t help you much if you need to repair it. As they often do, iFixit has torn down the tablet, and proved how repairable it is. Or isn’t. An extremely low score suggests this is one you’ll need to take care of in a big way, discounted or not. Even the more routine fixes will require a great deal of skill, and likely expensive replacement parts.

Nexus 9 stock stays strong after launch day

Nexus 9 stock stays strong after launch day

While the Nexus 6 suffered some relatively major hiccups during launch day, the Nexus 9 appears to be keeping stock a whole lot longer. Be it because tablets simply don't turn over well or because the Nexus 6 is simply a more enticing machine, the HTC-made Nexus 9 remains in stock. Just so long as you're willing to skip the "Sand" color, that is to say. Lunar White and Indigo Black are still available in 16 or 32GB editions - but not in LTE, just Wi-fi only.

Nexus 9 hits digital shelves in several configurations

The same day Google has dropped the embargo for the Nexus 9 non-review they've also released the device for sale. This machine is only going to be offered through the Google Play Devices store for now, but eventually it'll see action in physical stores across the United States and the rest of the world. This device is the first HTC-made tablet to be part of the Android Nexus lineup and the first tablet to run Android 5.0 Lollipop - not to mention the first Android device to run with 64-bit processing.

This is the Nexus 9, Android Lollipop’s tablet vanguard

This is the Nexus 9, Android Lollipop’s tablet vanguard

Google's Nexus 9 faces more than a few challenges. Not only does it have the job of following Google's well-esteemed Nexus 7, which for two generations gave Android tablet fans an affordable and bag-friendly option, but it also serves as flag bearer for Android 5.0 Lollipop on a tablet form-factor. Throw in the fact that it also marks HTC's long-awaited re-entry into the slate segment, and that it's the first true 64-bit Android tablet courtesy of NVIDIA's Tegra K1, and that's a whole lot of pressure resting on one 8.9-inch iPad rival. So, how does it hold up?

Nexus Player Review – Android TV’s awkward debut

Nexus Player Review – Android TV’s awkward debut

The living room has proved to be a challenge for Google. The company which has been so successful in dominating so many of the screens we interact with on a daily basis - our computers, phones, and tablets - has perversely struggled for that most traditional of displays, the humble TV. Google TV was flabby and confusing; the axe fell on the Nexus Q before it even went on sale. Only the Chromecast has had any measure of success, and yet just when we thought Google might have a strategy, along comes a different platform again, Android TV. Running first on the Nexus Player, but set to spread to smart TVs from numerous manufacturers, it’s Google’s fourth lounge reboot, but is it really necessary?
