United is replacing headrest screens with tablet holders

United is replacing headrest screens with tablet holders

First world problem or just plain common sense when flying: United Airlines is redesigning its seats so that passengers will be able to prop up a tablet and yet still have space on their tray-table for their in-flight meal. While it might seem flippant, it's part of a push by United to shift entertainment over to personal devices rather than necessarily outfitting every seat-back with a built-in screen.

Nexus 6 hits the FCC, Nexus Player Gamepad now available

Nexus 6 hits the FCC, Nexus Player Gamepad now available

Ever since Google messed up the FCC approval for the Nexus Player, the tech world seems to have gotten a slight obsession about monitoring the arrival of Nexus devices at the government agency. Those who are rooting for the phablet instead of the Nexus 9 tablet can probably now breathe a sigh of relief as the Nexus 6 has finally been added to the FCC's listings, clearing the way for the smartphone's pre-order, which, barring any last minute hiccup, should happen on the 29th.

Nexus 9 hands-on – Google’s tablet grows up

Nexus 9 hands-on – Google’s tablet grows up

A new HTC tablet has been a long time coming, and so the Nexus 9 takes no chances, HTC partnering up with Google to make not only the Android retort to the iPad Air 2 but a showcase for what Lollipop can do when given more than a smartphone screen. Replacing the Nexus 7 with a larger, more premium - and more expensive - version, not to mention retiring the Nexus 10 in the process, the Nexus 9 is also the first true 64-bit tablet running Android. I caught up with HTC for some early playtime ahead of its November release.

Nexus Player gets FCC stamp of approval, still out of stock

Nexus Player gets FCC stamp of approval, still out of stock

The Nexus Player was the surprise newcomer that Google unloaded when it announced the expected next generation of Nexus devices. The rather quirky multimedia set-top box, or circle rather, wasn't apparently done surprising us. As quick as it had come to pre-order availability in Google Play Store, it was quickly marked as out of stock, speculated to be due to FCC regulation issues. Now, however, the Nexus Player has been spotted in FCC's database, paving the way for its return and, hopefully, its eventual launch.

Is Nexus too big and expensive, now?

Is Nexus too big and expensive, now?

The Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet are official, and available for scrutiny via the Play Store. The two newest flagship devices from Google are also big; bigger than the devices they replace. Are they too big, though? Is the price Google is asking too much? Both new Nexus represent a new direction for the platform, but has Google turned some fans off? A lot of criticism has been levied against them for these two big, more-expensive-than-your-usual-Nexus devices — but is it fair?

Nexus 9 seen in Vietnam in the flesh, Amazon starts pre-orders

The excitement around Google and HTC's newest Nexus 9 tablet is so great that some people just can't keep their hands off it, or keep those from showing up on the Internet. The new Nexus tablet isn't due out in a few weeks, but someone in Vietnam already got their hands on not one but two Nexus 9, in black and white colors, just to tease everyone else with a substantial number of photos. In the meantime, though, Amazon has already started the ball rolling.

Android Lollipop confirmed for NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet

Android Lollipop confirmed for NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet

As if you needed another reason to want the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, here’s one: this tablet will be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop as soon as NVIDIA can muster it. This means everything we discussed yesterday in our Android Lollipop guide: everything a Nexus needs to know and likely more. NVIDIA has been really good about incorporating Google’s must-have features for Nexus devices into their own tablet lineup and have incorporated some feature even Nexus devices don’t have yet - like on-device screen recording.
