CyanogenMod Installer walkthrough: Nexus to new phone in minutes

Today the CyanogenMod software universe expands with the app ecosystem called CyanogenMod Installer. What the team at the alternate-Android software team's intent is with this software is to take the otherwise convoluted process in loading the CyanogenMod software to a smartphone and turn it into an "anyone can do it" experience. In other words - if we have to make a real "how-to" guide, the team at CyanogenMod haven't done their job properly.

Google disables translucent bars in Nexus 10 KitKat source code

Google's Nexus 10 tablet will not get translucent navigation and notification bars with the Android 4.4.1 KitKat update, which lets the wallpaper go full-screen from top to bottom as it does in the Nexus 5. Developers can activate the bars with a one-step code tweak, but it will not be the default. The lack of translucent decor may also indicate a bit more pervasive and subtle problem with the device.

Nexus 8 possibly leaked on Android website

The Nexus 8 tablet may have just been leaked on the Android wbesite. If you go to the Apps & Entertainment promotional page on the site and scroll two-thirds of the way down the screen, you can see a woman sitting at a table and holding a tablet that appears to be about eight inches long. The Verge points out that Google never shows "generic" photos of devices that don't exist, leading us to believe the tablet may very well be the company's next big hardware move.

Nexus 5 details add up: appearing in the UK and Netherlands UPDATE: and Israel

This morning the LG-made Nexus 5 appears to be showing up in-stock (or nearly in-stock) across the world. One of the several stock images appearing this morning comes from Carphone Warehouse, a carrier inside the UK that's generally got leaks such as this just as often as the rest of the leaks universe. Another leak this morning comes from a Dutch website that's contacted a local retailer and found - via pre-order information - that their stock of Nexus 5 devices will be arriving as soon as Wednesday - making way for a Halloween or November 1st launch.

iPad Air vs Surface 2 vs Nexus 7: No Contest

The war is on for the most sought-after tablet on the market, and the differentiation between the front-runners appears now, more than ever, to be strikingly high. What we've got from Apple is the iPad Air, a new far-smaller iteration of the same Retina display as the 4th generation unit. From Google there's the Nexus 7 (2013), a low-priced high-powered Android tablet manufactured by ASUS. Microsoft's competitor in the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 works with Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT, making this battle a three-way fight between operating systems right off the bat.
