Ubuntu for tablets unveiled, coming to Nexus devices this Thursday

Ubuntu for tablets unveiled, coming to Nexus devices this Thursday

Early last month, Canonical announced the Ubuntu OS for smartphones, which will be coming later this year in October as opposed to the initial timeline of a 2014 release. However, we still haven't heard a word about a tablet OS until now. Canonical unveiled the tablet version of Ubuntu today during the same time as HTC's event, and while the news might have gotten drowned out by the new HTC One smartphone, open-source fanatics are no doubt excited for a tablet version of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu tablet tease counts down to HTC event

In a move that's making as clear a statement as can be made without outright saying the final word, Ubuntu has set up a timer with the words "tick, tock, tablet time" attached, lining up perfectly with the HTC event tomorrow morning. If there's one thing that's clear in the world of technology news reporting, it's that there's no such thing as a coincidence - and never more than in situations such as these. The doors open at 9:15 AM EST for a 10AM start in New York City - Ubuntu's reveal looks to be set for the event's start.

Microsoft avoids Surface head-to-head war with Nexus 7

If you thought the Surface Pro was great, but only if Microsoft decided to shave a few inches off and make the tablet more "mini", you may be in luck. Though the Microsoft Surface RT and the Surface Pro are going to be the mainstay units for the Windows 8 and Windows RT operating systems for some time to come, it's been made clear by the company this week that different display sizes are a possibility. At this point it's just a matter of time.

Nexus 10 now available in Japan Play Store

While the Nexus 10 tablet from Google and Samsung has been available for a little while now to some buyers, it hasn't been available in Japan thus far. That ends today, with customers in Japan now available to get the tablet from the Japan Play Store.

Samsung 1080p smartphone tipped with Exynos 5

Samsung 1080p smartphone tipped with Exynos 5

Today appeared to be quite the day for leaks, with the Samsung GT-B9150 coming in most recently with a powerful Exynos 5 processor under the hood and a 1080p display to its name. This device brings on the 1.7GHz A15-based Exynos 5 5250 Dual processor to the game, this being the same massive beast we've seen in the Google Nexus 10 and the Samsung Series 3 Chromebook. This device could be the Samsung Galaxy S IV or it could be a brand new Galaxy Note - at the moment the details are quite scarce and fried with salt, as it were.

ASUS MeMO Pad 10 Smart revealed in product leak

This week the folks at ASUS have had a bit of a leak in their pipes with both product images and details surrounding their next Android tablet, the ASUS MeMO Pad 10. This machine (product number ME301T) works with a 10.1-inch IPS LCD display with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor under the hood. Oddly enough, inside this machine you'll find just 1GB of ram, and that display resolution is less than what we've seen on devices like the Transformer Infinity from last year - could this be a budget-minded machine?

White Nexus 4 leaks in full

LG's white Nexus 4 has shown up in the wild, with a teaser leak yesterday making way for a full gush of live shots of the pale-cased Android handset. The shimmering smartphone cropped up in person over at Vietnamese site Tinhte, showing off its iridescent back plate finish, as well as confirming that it will be pretty much business-as-usual from the front, with little change from the existing Nexus 4.
