According to Facebook, more than a million videos of people pouring ice water on their head have been posted on the social network, all of them done as part of the Ice Bucket Challenge. The reason behind the cold shower is to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig's disease, and latest on the list of participants is Bill Gates.
Forget Tesla. That's perhaps not the official tagline for Renovo Motors and its striking new electric coupe, but it's not hard to see the retro racer as a push back against Elon Musk's polished bid to take EVs mainstream. Unveiled at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the Renovo Coupe makes some big claims, too, like 0-60 mph in under 3.4 seconds.
Tesla Motors has boosted the warranty on its Model S drivetrain, increasing it to infinite miles and retroactively applying it to all the Model S cars the EV company has sold. While you'd think it might be an opportunity for Tesla founder Elon Musk to gloat - given how rare such a warranty is - the outspoken executive says that in fact he regrets not doing it sooner. "In hindsight," Musk writes today, "this should have been our policy from the beginning of the Model S program."
Behold, the first video game of this modern generation to allow you to play as the king of nerds, Nikola Tesla. Serbian American inventor, creator of the Tesla coil and first radio remote control vehicle, and hero to electrical and mechanical engineers of all kinds - here Nikola Tesla returns to action in the year 1886, just in time to take part in the video game "The Order: 1886."
The teams at NASA and GM behind the Robonaut 2's Robo-Glove have made the decision to allow licensing of their technology for public use. The glove is made to amplify the abilities of the wearer, not entirely unlike that of the glove of Iron Man in the Marvel Comics universe. This glove allows its user to blast through tasks that require high hand strength - grasping and repetitive tasks especially.
With SpaceX getting its own launch center for Elon Musk to continue his march to Mars, it seems his mind is still on the planet we occupy. Roughly 6.5 acres of the site will house solar panels, according to a local paper. Even more interesting is that Musk is in control of the solar company, too.
Every journey begins with a single step. For Elon Musk and his 200 Gigafactory dream, that single step is this agreement with Japanese electronics company Panasonic. The two will be working together to build and manage Tesla's first gigafactory, a large-scale manufacturing plant that will produce batteries for its EV cars.
Toyota's fuel-cell car will launch as the Toyota Mirai, insiders claim, naming the hydrogen-powered vehicle after the Japanese word for "future". The car, expected to go on sale sometime before April 2015, has so far only been known as the Toyota FCV (or "Fuel-Cell Vehicle"), polarizing trade show visitors with its distinctive looks.
Forty-five years ago today, three American astronauts - Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins - made history with the Apollo 11 mission, putting human feet on the moon for the first time. Today's anniversary of the moon landing sees NASA relive the 1969 manned lunar mission with an online rebroadcast, while it also looks ahead to new ventures for exploration.
