Verizon 4G LTE network turns one year old today

Verizon 4G LTE network turns one year old today

Though it seems like just yesterday that we were first unboxing the HTC ThunderBolt, the first smartphone to roll out on Verizon's still-impressive 4G LTE network here in the USA, it's been one year to the day that the network has been active. On the first day the network was officially deployed, it covered an already impressive 39 markets, this eclipsed at this one year marker by the current 190 markets the Verizon 4G LTE network sits in today. While the Verizon LTE network has been their "4G" offering since they originally started promoting the "4G" term, they mention the competition as being less prepared for the eventual oncoming of higher speed networks - sarcasm in tow, of course.

Motorola DROID 4 dual-core LTE QWERTY slider revealed semi-officially

When it comes to the DROID line as carried by Verizon, there's no knowing which manufacturer is going to get to have their hardware graced with the name, but usually it's Motorola - and here in the DROID 4, the trend continues. What you're going to get in this several-times half-leaked device is a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the newest version of Motorola's custom user interface over Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. This device is of course also running on Verizon's 4G LTE network.

Verizon XyBoard 4G LTE tablets confirmed for December

Verizon XyBoard 4G LTE tablets confirmed for December

If you were expecting the next tablet that hit Verizon in the US from Motorola to be called the Xoom 2 you are out of luck. The tablet will be called the XyBoard when it hits the states in two models. Both the larger tablet known as the Xoom 2 in the UK and the smaller Media Edition will carry the Droid XyBoard brand. I suspect when said in marketing speak the name will sound like "cyborg." We spied some leaked pics of the XyBoard last month.

Motorola DROID XYBOARD 8.2 press photo leaked, name appears official

Motorola DROID XYBOARD 8.2 press photo leaked, name appears official

Verizon appear very much to be getting ready to release the next generation of Motorola tablets, one to replace the original XOOM, this time titled XYBOARD and looking to be situated in portrait position rather than the landscape we saw with the original. This device is set to have an 8.2-inch display, unique to the tablet world, may well have a quad-core processor by the time it's released more than likely inside 2012, and by the looks of it, this is going to by just as heavy duty as the original and more - look at that fabulous aluminum plate! But let's talk about the name for a minute - that name is just… interesting.

Motorola DROID 4 leaked in Beta build photos

Motorola DROID 4 leaked in Beta build photos

It appears extremely likely that the photos and specifications you're about to see belong to none other than the fourth in the basic-named DROID line from Verizon and Motorola. This is the DROID 4, if I may be so bold, ladies and gentlemen, and it looks rather similar to the rest of the very recent stylings of the Motorola family, having the same bent-in corners, dual ports (microHDMI and microUSB), and overall look of both previous DROID models and the ATRIX 2, the DROID RAZR, and the unconfirmed next-level XOOM tablet.

Motorola Oct 18 event promises “Faster, Thinner, Smarter Stronger” Verizon range

Motorola Oct 18 event promises “Faster, Thinner, Smarter Stronger” Verizon range

Motorola has announced a press event with Verizon Wireless, promising to unveil "the next big innovation" on Tuesday, October 18 2011. The invitation for the New York event gives no hint as to what Motorola Mobility may be revealing - bar the tagline "Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger." - though there's no shortage of rumored tablets - both small and large - along with smartphones, including a tipped resurrection of the iconic RAZR branding.

Update: New Motorola preview video added after the cut.
