LG G-Slate for T-Mobile Announced at CES 2011

Not to be outdone by Motorola, LG and T-Mobile have teamed up to officially announce LG's first Android-based tablet, now called the G-Slate. The device will be a full 4G tablet, and will be powered by the newly showcased Android 3.0, or Honeycomb. The release states that the G-Slate will be one of the first 4G-enabled tablet devices to make use of Android 3.0, which was designed from the ground up for tablet devices.

Apple now 4th global phone vendor; RIM drop to 5th & Sony Ericsson kicked out

Apple has jumped RIM in the top five mobile phone vendor rankings, with strong iPhone sales giving them the number four position and pushing the BlackBerry maker into fifth place.  The news follows Apple CEO Steve Jobs' dismissive report on RIM during his company's recent financial results call, and also signifies an even more significant fall from grace by Sony Ericsson, which has dropped from the IDC tracker for the first time since 2004.

Sprint XOHM WiMAX launch: SlashGear goes to Baltimore

Sprint has officially announced its new 4G XOHM WiMAX high-speed WWAN service operating in Baltimore, and with it several new WiMAX-enabled notebooks from Acer, ASUS, Lenovo, Toshiba.  The PCs will use Intel's combined WiMAX/WiFi module, an optional feature for Intel Centrino 2-based laptops, and which Dell, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony have all promised will be integrated in select notebooks of their own in 2009. Alternatively a USB WiMAX dongle, made by ZTE, can be used to add WiMAX to other devices; Nokia's N810 WiMAX Edition Internet Tablet will also go on sale later this month.
