Motorola surprise with Q3 financial report

Motorola surprise with Q3 financial report

We've been waiting for Motorola's Android range to go on sale to turn around the company's ailing fortunes, but it turns out just the promise of Android models seems to have done the trick.  The company have announced their Q3 2009 financial figures, and they've surprised investors and analysts alike with news of net income amounting to $12m; that might not sound like much, but it's a significant turnaround compared to the $397m loss in the same period twelve months ago.

Motorola scale back LiMo Foundation involvement to focus on Android

We doubt we're the only people who forgot that Motorola had thrown their oar in with the LiMo Foundation, but happily we'll unlikely to need that knowledge again since the company is seemingly dropping its support for the open-source mobile platform.  Motorola VP Christy Wyatt has vacated her seat on the LiMo Foundation board, while the company itself has downgraded its membership from "founding member" to "associate member".

Orange UK Motorola DEXT preorders from Sept 22nd

We're still waiting for official word from Motorola and T-Mobile in the US as to when the new CLIQ Android smartphone will land, but that hasn't stopped the manufacturer's UK arm from getting a little more specific.  The Motorola DEXT - which is how the handset will be branded outside the US - has been confirmed to arrive on Orange UK in early September, with preordering expected to begin on September 22nd.

CyanogenMod 7.1 Android hack released, HP Touchpad inclusion imminent

If there's a king of Android ROMs, aka complete replacement of the visible workings of a mobile device in this case, it's CyanogenMod. For those of you that do not know, CyanogenMod is used by thousands of Android users across the earth, it being the most used Android ROM by far, and today the developers behind the project have announced that it's been upgraded to version 7.1. This version continues to closely replicate Android 2.3 Gingerbread, now with a new laundry list of feature updates as well as a short list of new devices it will work with, including, yes indeed, the HP TouchPad we've been waiting so long to modify.
