Dr. Dre beats tour review

Dr. Dre beats tour review

Monster Cable's headphone collaboration with Dr. Dre, the Beats, surprised us with their musical prowess back in August.  While celebrity endorsements tend toward the cheesy, and Monster's products toward the over-priced, we weren't expecting much; in actual fact, they proved impressively capable.  Now the pair is hoping to do the same for in-ear headphones, with the Beats Tour: can the follow-up muster the same success?

Replaceable Battery and microSD slot on Phones: how critical are they?

Replaceable Battery and microSD slot on Phones: how critical are they?

Samsung has just unveiled its two latest phablet masterpieces and, naturally, they are the talk of the town. But some of those voices raised aren't as welcoming as Samsung might have hoped. Because just as we expected and equally dreaded, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ did lack two features: a removable battery and a microSD card slot. And just as expected, it did not sit well with the very same group of people, the "productivity users", that Samsung is trying to win over. But how important are these two features today anyway?

HTC Rezound Review

HTC Rezound Review

Verizon isn't stinting on 4G LTE smartphones, and hot on the heels of the DROID RAZR comes the HTC Rezound. Where Motorola chased slimness, HTC has targeted all-round top-flight features of the sort we've not really seen from the company in some time. So, the Rezound packs a 720p HD resolution display, speedy dual-core processor and a slick unibody chassis in its quest to be the best LTE smartphone around. Does it all add up, or has HTC bitten off more than it can chew? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

SOUL by Ludacris Audio Equipment Shipping Inside May 2011

SOUL by Ludacris Audio Equipment Shipping Inside May 2011

That's this month! They'd better get them out the door if they expect them to make good on their word, and by they I of course mean SOUL by Ludacris. This is a series of headphones and earbuds right along the same lines as Beats by Dre and the now-defunct Sleek by 50. What we're looking at hear is three different models of headphone, two different models of earbud, all of them in conservative, muted tones like white, black, gray, and a few rogues like bright red, blue, and the most excellent gold-plated SL300s.

Avi Greengart’s Last Minute, Non-Obvious Holiday Gift Guide 2010

Avi Greengart’s Last Minute, Non-Obvious Holiday Gift Guide 2010

First, a confession. This guide is always "last minute," mostly because I get so busy covering all the new devices launched just in time for the holiday shopping season that I end up starting the holiday gift guide late. Last year it was so late that I gave up and turned it into a Best Products of the Year piece instead. This year I’ve missed Chanukah but I’m still getting in ahead of Christmas, so that’s good. However, I do usually try to make this a "non-obvious" gift guide. SlashGear already has you covered if what you want advice on the best cellphone, camera, Bluetooth headset, or the like. My favorite products this year include several on that list, including Apple’s iPad, Jawbone’s ICON, Mophie’s Juice Pack Air and the 11" MacBook Air. I’d add Amazon’s Kindle and Microsoft’s Kinect (assuming you can find one at retail). But what if you’re looking for…

HP ENVY 17 3D Laptop Hands-On and Unboxing

HP ENVY 17 3D Laptop Hands-On and Unboxing

As you might already know, we've already had our fingers on a ENVY 17 3D in a small way back in October and indeed the laptop IS now for sale from HP - and you know what that means - Review time! Today we received no less than the ENVY 17 3D laptop in the mail in a freezing cold box (I am in Minnesota, after all,) and couldn't help but to release it from its boxy prison before it was even able to thaw all the way out (you'll notice when I flip the machine upside down that you can see my frozen fingerprints all over it.) Take a look below!

V-MODA Crossfade LP Review

V-MODA Crossfade LP Review

"Your headphones," V-MODA CEO Val Kolton says, "should be as unique as your style and music", a sentiment that perfectly encapsulates the company's latest model, the Crossfade LP. Designed to be as distinctive visually as they are audibly, V-MODA reckon they're the product of four years work and untold collaboration with music industry pros. The company also claims they're the ultimate in versatility; we slotted in our favourite Val Doonican cassette to find out.
