When you've tapped the hip-hop knowledge of Dr.Dre for your headphones, where do you go next? If you're Monster, you sketch out an endorsement deal with interestingly-clothed Lady Gaga, who then designs you a set of in-ear headphones - the Heartbeats by Lady Gaga, no less - which look like tiny meat tenderisers.
SlashGear had the opportunity to sit down with rapper Ludacris and Monster Music owner Noel Lee at CES today, to discuss the artist's new Theater of the Mind album which has been remixed in surround sound. While Monster may be better known for their Cable hardware division, responsible for the Dr.Dre Beats and Beats tour headphones, the company also has an Superdisc audio arm putting out music DVDs in full surround sound. Company founder Noel Lee is responsible for High Definition Surround, a set of recording, mixing and reproduction techniques to accurately recreate the sound field of an original performance in high definition for 5.1 surround sound. Monster Cable's headphone collaboration with Dr. Dre, the Beats, surprised us with their musical prowess back in August. While celebrity endorsements tend toward the cheesy, and Monster's products toward the over-priced, we weren't expecting much; in actual fact, they proved impressively capable. Now the pair is hoping to do the same for in-ear headphones, with the Beats Tour: can the follow-up muster the same success?
Verizon isn't stinting on 4G LTE smartphones, and hot on the heels of the DROID RAZR comes the HTC Rezound. Where Motorola chased slimness, HTC has targeted all-round top-flight features of the sort we've not really seen from the company in some time. So, the Rezound packs a 720p HD resolution display, speedy dual-core processor and a slick unibody chassis in its quest to be the best LTE smartphone around. Does it all add up, or has HTC bitten off more than it can chew? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.
So you're in the mood for some hip-hop endorsed audio in the form of over the ear headphones but you're not into the whole Beats by Dre fad, yes? Perhaps you'd like a slightly more GOLD solution? It's time for Ludacris to come out from the shadows and plop some SOUL headphones on your head. The Over-Ear SL300 headphones by the name of SOUL by Ludacris are shipping now, retailers including the likes of RadioShack, Amazon.com, Best Buy, and Microsoft (the store you'll find directly across the aisle from the Apple store in the Mall of America, of course.) Apple stores will be carrying them as well.
That's this month! They'd better get them out the door if they expect them to make good on their word, and by they I of course mean SOUL by Ludacris. This is a series of headphones and earbuds right along the same lines as Beats by Dre and the now-defunct Sleek by 50. What we're looking at hear is three different models of headphone, two different models of earbud, all of them in conservative, muted tones like white, black, gray, and a few rogues like bright red, blue, and the most excellent gold-plated SL300s.
Back at CES rapper 50 Cent unveiled a new headphone brand that he was part of that carried the rappers name. This is nothing new, the headphone market is flooded with headphones that have the name of various artists and Monster with its Beats by Dre line is one for the most prolific.
