mintpass mintpad MID gets unboxed

After mintpass made a few pre-release mintpad MID units available to touchscreen-loving early adopters last week, the first English-language unboxing and hands-on for the 2.86-inch device is here.  We're entirely unsurprised to see that Jenn from Pocketables is first; she's already impressed with the build-quality of the WiFi-enabled mintpad, together with the range of accessories they include.

When Korean firm mintpass aren't working on the mintpad MID, they're busy at the design-board sketching out concept prototypes for your minimalist home.  One of their most interesting designs - especially since they've talked about next-generation mintpads with larger displays - is the Mint Frame, a 7-inch touchscreen digital photo frame that not only displays pictures but, thanks to a 2-megapixel camera built into the back, takes them too.

mintpad MID first-impressions: surprisingly capable

mintpad MID first-impressions: surprisingly capable

We're still harboring a soft-spot for mintpass' mintpad MID, so it's relieving to hear that the first English-modified units are meeting with approval.  Pocketables shared their unboxing earlier this week, and now it's time for some first-impressions.  The mintpad's 1.3-megapixel camera is proving surprisingly capable, as is the browser (despite not being fully translated yet) and the QVGA screen may be small at 2.86-inches but it's still highly readable.

mintpad US/Euro launch delayed by web-render server [Updated with Video]

After mintpass' English-language site was updated to include the mintpad ultra-portable MID earlier this week, speculation began that a launch in the US and/or Europe was imminent.  SlashGear has been talking to mintpass as to the state of play, and it seems that while the mintpad hardware is basically ready for its English-language release, the thin-client UZard browser requires new server support.

SlashGear Week in Review – Week 34 2009

Here we go again with another week in review for your perusal. A mystery Android-powered MID tipped up this week looking very much like those renderings of the Apple tablet to my eyes. It's cool to see android showing up on so many devices. Logitech unveiled an update to the coolest racing wheel ever, the G25, called simply enough the G27. The new wheel promises more accurate force feedback effects and keeps with the slick clutch and gated shifter we loved from the G25.

SlashGear Week in Review – Week 21 2009

The SlashGear team have been surprisingly mobile this week, with part one of our Lincoln MKS road-test, and toting Sprint's version of the MiFi 2200 portable EVDO hotspot around.  We still found enough time to get frantically excited about the Palm Pre, though, which we now know will launch on June 6th for $199.99.

That excitement is tempered with the ongoing rumors that stocks may be severely curtailed on launch day.  Not only have Best Buy and RadioShack insiders been talking of minimal handset numbers come June 6th, Sprint's own CEO is warning that the Pre will likely be in short supply for the first couple of months.  The concern is that all of Palm's momentum since CES back in January could fizzle out, as Apple are expected to announce a third-generation iPhone two days after the Pre's launch.
