Microsoft Surface Pro 2 battery life vastly better shortly after launch

The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is significantly more battery-efficient than it was when it first launched on Oct. 22, thanks to a firmware update pushed by Microsoft shortly thereafter. It's a whopping 25% more battery-efficient than it was in terms of intense Web browsing, and a noticeable 16% better when running video. Anand Lal Shimpi of AnandTech ran the tests that demonstrated the improvement and ranked the results against various other devices.

Microsoft Surface 2 with Snapdragon 800 LTE tipped in testing

Microsoft is set to reveal new versions of the Surface RT tablet, using Qualcomm Snapdragon processors alongside existing NVIDIA Tegra chips, sources claim, with the goal of adding integrated LTE support. Although NVIDIA will supply processors "for some versions" insiders told Bloomberg, Qualcomm's Snapdragon would feature in other models, as Microsoft attempts to make its homegrown slate more directly competitive with the iPad.
