Microsoft slashing Windows RT licensing to rescue interest tip sources

Microsoft slashing Windows RT licensing to rescue interest tip sources

Microsoft is believed to be discounting Windows RT tablet OS licenses in an attempt to stimulate interest in the Windows-on-ARM platform. Windows RT had been Microsoft's strategy to directly take on the iPad and Android tablets with more affordable chipsets from Qualcomm and others, but lackluster app compatibility left OEMs hesitant. Now, Bloomberg's sources claim, Microsoft is relying on good old fashioned discounting to drive interest.

Microsoft defends Xbox One design

Just as vocal as the enthusiasm around the new Xbox One reveal were those who thought the console looks like an old VCR; now, Microsoft is fighting back with an explanation as to why, exactly, the next-gen hardware is designed the way it is. Billed as "a new approach to design", the process of crafting the Xbox One, the matching Kinect, and the wireless controller involved 200 gamepad models, over a hundred sensor-bar mock-ups, and "dozens and dozens" of console prototypes, before the so-called "liquid black" finished product was arrived at.

Google demands Microsoft pull Windows Phone YouTube app by next week

On January 2, Microsoft's Vice President Dave Heiner posted a rather lengthy admonishment of Google on TechNet, claiming the company is intentionally trying to harm Windows Phone, with one of the biggest reasons cited being the lack of a full-feature mobile YouTube app, forcing the company to offer a weaker sub-par option. Not to be deterred, Microsoft pressed forward and released a far better offering last week, with one notable difference: a lack of advertisements.
