Petabytes of Megaupload data trapped on one hosting company's server has been deleted without warning, outspoken founder Kim Dotcom has revealed, meaning a huge number of predominantly European users have likely seen the end of their content. Leaseweb, one of several server providers Megaupload paid to store files, wiped 690 servers Dotcom told TorrentFreak, giving no notice to Dotcom's legal team or, indeed, the US court still tussling over what should be done with user data.

It's an image of our nearest galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud. Astronomers at NASA and Pennsylvania State University used NASA's Swift satellite to create the magnificent imagery.

A new variation on Samsung's Galaxy S 4 has leaked, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active, with the quadcore 1.9GHz smartphone cropping up in Croatia ahead of an official release. The slightly aesthetically-redesigned phone, which apparently has physical menu and back buttons as well as what looks to be a more rugged rear casing, has turned up at GSMArena, having been previewed on a Samsung WhatON app update first, complete with some other new twists on the Samsung flagship.

Researchers with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory have undertaken a large project that will allow them to measure the carbon footprint of megacities - those with millions of residents, such as Los Angeles and Paris. Such an endevour is achieved using sensors mounted in high locations above the cities, such as a peak in the San Gabriel Mountains and a high-up level on the Eiffel Tower that is closed to tourist traffic.
