Palm Acquisition Leads to HP Pulling Out of Windows Home Server Market – Leaves Vail Lonely

HP says that due to their relatively recent purchase of Palm, they'll be switching their business priorities away from their HP MediaSmart Server range. They'll sell the rest of their inventory of EX490 and EX495, support their customers through the rest of their support periods, then have the plug completely pulled. HP's MediaSmart development team is already working on further development of WebOS devices for 2011. This move is of course a blow to Microsoft's plan to deliver Windows Home Server "Vail" to customers as more than likely they'd been banking on HP's support through the future (they've been partnered with HP through the release and launch of the MediaSmart Server in 2007.) Microsoft responds to this news with promises of support for Vail from Tranquil PC, Acer, and "many System Builders." Read The Full Story

HP has outed a trio of new PCs, including the HP TouchSmart 310 and HP Omni100 desktops, and the HP TouchSmart tm2 convertible notebook.  The TouchSmart 310 is a 20-inch all-in-one running AMD's 2.8GHz Athlon II 240e dual-core CPU with 4GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD; it has a TV tuner, DVD burner and multitouch capable display. CES 2010 doesn't kick off until mid-week, but some of HP's new products have seemingly leaked ahead of time.  Several desktops, notebooks and netbooks have been prematurely unveiled, complete with partial specifications and pricing, including a Pine Trail netbook, the HP Mini 210 HD Edition, and a 14-inch ultraportable, the HP Pavilion dv4i.  As for the desktops, Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors make appearances in multiple HP Pavilion Elite HPE machines. This is a good thing, I have one season of Heroes in HD on my 40GB unit and the thing is almost full. Samsung unveiled a new home theater projector this week called the P410M.
