Microsoft Xbox Live inadvertently posts Mass Effect 3 DLC

Microsoft Xbox Live inadvertently posts Mass Effect 3 DLC

Mass Effect 3 is no doubt going to go down as one of the biggest games in 2012, but it hasn't been released quite yet. So you can imagine the surprise of Xbox 360 users when they noticed that a piece of downloadable content was put up on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The DLC pack, called From Ashes, showed up on the digital marketplace but it did not appear to actually be downloadable. Someone clearly just hit a very wrong switch over at Microsoft headquarters. We bet he (or she) got a pretty stern talking to.

Mass Effect 3 copies tied to weather balloons and sent aloft

I have played both the first and second titles in the Mass Effect franchise and these are some my favorite games ever. Being a gaming geek, I even read the book that launched about the same time as the original game. Any fan of the franchise knows the third installment is coming on March 6. If you want to get your hands on the game a full week before it hits stores, you don't need to be professional game reviewer; you just need to have some spare time.

Razer unveils Mass Effect 3 accessories and iPhone case

Razer unveils Mass Effect 3 accessories and iPhone case

It's hard to make video game aesthetics work in the real world. Halo's segmented green and Starcraft's otherworldly blue end up looking like odd residents when saddled to desktop staples or game consoles. But Bioware's Mass Effect series seems to do well when translated into physical goods, mostly thanks to the subtle red-on-black racing stripe of Commander Shepard's N7 armor. If you feel like you need a little more intergalactic style in your life, Razer's introduced a collection of accessories (both gaming and fashion) to celebrate the upcoming release of Mass Effect 3.

Awesome replica Portal gun up for pre-order

Awesome replica Portal gun up for pre-order

I've seen some very cool replica weapons from video games over the years. Some of my favorite replica weapons have been those used in the Mass Effect franchise. I think the latest replica weapon to surface may be the coolest yet. It is a 1:1 scale model of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal gun from the Valve video game Portal.

Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 demo includes Xbox Live Gold trial

Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 demo includes Xbox Live Gold trial

If you download the Mass Effect 3 demo for Xbox 360 on its Valentine's Day launch day, you'll get a free month of Xbox Live Gold. That isn't because Microsoft and Bioware are feeling generous; it's because of the somewhat ridiculous restriction that prevents non-Gold members from playing online games. And as anyone who knows Mass Effect knows, if you want to show the best content, you need to try the online multiplayer.

Mass Effect 3 Kinect voice control gets video demo

Mass Effect 3 Kinect voice control gets video demo

BioWare's Mass Effect 3 will use Microsoft's Kinect sensor bar not for motion- and gesture-control but for spoken voice commands that augment traditional gamepad play, speeding up the action by streamlining group tactics and flipping between weapons. Rather than pause the game, use the command wheel to decide non-player sidekick actions and then return to play, BioWare showed VentureBeat how commands like "carnage" can automatically trigger an attack on the opponents you've highlighted.
