Google has revealed its annual "Zeitgeist" wrap-up of the top searches of the year, bringing 2013 to a close with a run-down of the global trending searches that includes Nelson Mandela, the iPhone 5s, and the PlayStation 4. Continuing a summary tradition started back in 2001, Google Zeitgeist 2013 is also the broadest so-far, the search giant says: over 1,000 top ten lists, ranging from most-searched individuals, through TV shows, to gadgets.

Google has today announced that the Nelson Mandela multimedia archive has gone live. The archive was part of a $1.25 million grant to the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in order to bring photographs, recordings, and documents to the web. The Centre is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is dedicated to thoroughly documenting Mandela.
HTC and Samsung are preparing two LTE-equipped Windows Phone devices that are expected to launch in early 2012, says The Verge, citing sources familiar with Microsoft's plans. The sources also reveal that the two devices will be running an updated Mango version of Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system instead of the next-gen Tango platform.

Signs of water on five distant planets have been spotted using the Hubble Space Telescope, with scientists finessing their measurements so as to better differentiate which stand the best likelihood of potentially supporting life. Evidence of water had been initially spotted on several Jupiter-like exoplanets previously, but the team led by the University of Maryland in College Park was able to use infrared wavelength measurements to more specifically calculate the nature of the individual atmospheres.
