Get cookin’ with the XM42; handheld flamethrower gets crowdfunded

The XM42 claims to be the world's first commercially available flamethrower, which means that almost anyone will be able to buy the handheld incendiary device. We have to wonder, is that really a good thing? The XM42 flamethrower is gearing up for production via the crowdfunding site IndieGogo. Honestly, it looks dangerous, but it's designed to be much safer than any homemade improvised device a teenager or doomsday-prepper would make. Even a "safe" flamethrower is still dangerous. For the XM42, safety certainly doesn't translate as weakness because the it packs a formidable, fiery punch.

This week the folks at Sony have detailed their new midrange smartphone, the Xperia M4 Aqua. This device is Sony's first octa-core 64-bit smartphone running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with Android 5.0 Lollipop under the hood. This device will be released in 80 countries worldwide with more than 100 carrier partners - except the United States. No Xperia M4 Aqua for us. There are no plans at this time to bring the US, suggests Sony, as their flagship focus in the United States continues. Guess we'll have to live with the ultra-awesome Xperia Z3 or Z3v.

Cadillac’s 2015 ATS-V wants to kill BMW’s M3/M4

Cadillac has taken the wraps off of its latest high-performance cars for its most eager drivers, the ATS-V in Coupe and Sedan forms. Taking the existing ATS and fettling it to within an inch of its angular life, the RWD two- and four-door cars get a twin-turbo V6 3.6L engine good for 455 HP and 445 lb-ft of torque, making them more powerful - not to mention, with a 189 mph top speed, faster - than BMW's M3 and M4.

BMW X4 M40i spied during racetrack testing in Germany

It's not uncommon today for automakers to test cars on a racetrack that are likely to never actually see racetrack use. BMW did just this recently when what is thought to be the X4 M40i was spied testing on the Nurburgring in Germany. Automakers love to say that the heralding of their cars were tuned on the Nurburgring. The hunchbacked M40i is a sub-M brand performance car and while it may not have the same levels of performance as something like the M3 or M4, it should be an impressive ride.
