Details of the Sonos S3 aka the Play:3 wireless nightstand speaker last seen crossing through the FCC have leaked, courtesy of a prematurely posted Amazon product page. Since yanked - but still available in Google's cache - the page detailed the Sonos Play:3 and described it as a "smaller, sexier, tuck in a corner and blow out the roof, all-in-one player." Logitech's streaming music ambitions continue, with the launch of the Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter for Intel WiDi laptops unveiled, along with a Bluetooth counterpart and a deal which will see Spotify support added to the Squeezebox range. The WiDi Wireless Speaker Adapter uses Intel's wireless display technology but for quick & easy audio streaming instead, using a compact adapter box that hooks up to your HiFi or standalone speakers. Logitech have finally released their Squeezebox Radio Accessory Pack, which will finally allow users of the Squeezebox Radio to cut the power cord.  The $49.99 kit includes an IR remote control and an internal rechargeable Li-Ion battery pack; Logitech reckon it's good enough for up to six hours of wireless playback from the WiFi radio.

As 2009 comes to a close it’s time to acknowledge some of my favorite tech products of the year.

The first “product” on the list works across the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch: Apple’s App Store. The hardware upgrades to the iPhone and iPod touch in 2009 were less impressive than the price drop on the iPhone 3G and the greatly expanded capabilities that application developers were given for writing for the iPlatform. The developer community responded with tens of thousands of new apps that turn an iPhone or iPod touch into a portable game console, heart monitor, prayer book, GPS navigator, eBook reader, and myriad other possibilities. Other platforms also rolled out app stores this year, but Apple retains an enormous lead in both the number and quality of options.
