Logitech to let Revue die out, no replacement coming

Logitech to let Revue die out, no replacement coming

Like a lot of geeks out there, I had high hopes for the Logitech Revue box when I first heard about it. Those hopes quickly faded as many realized that the expensive set-top box had little to offer in the way of programming that couldn't be found elsewhere for much less. Who knows, had the box been able to access the free version of Hulu and other content perhaps things would have been different.

Logitech dumps Revue to $99 amid dire Q2: loses $30m and CEO

Logitech has reported $30m in losses for Q2 2011 [pdf link], further slashed the price of its Revue Google TV box in a desperate grab at an uninterested public, and lost its CEO who has bowed out amid the company's dreary financial showing. Moving forward, the Revue will be just $99 as Logitech attempts to "remove price as barrier to broad consumer acceptance"; meanwhile, company chairman Guerrino De Luca is resuming his former role as CEO after Gerald P. Quindlen stepped down.

Logitech update for Revue Google TV box rolling out now

Logitech update for Revue Google TV box rolling out now

I was excited when the Logitech Review set top box for Google TV was first announced. At the time it was launched the device could stream all the cool video content that was online, including Hulu making it a very nice offering indeed. Shortly after that launch Hulu blocked Google TV users from being able to stream content for the website and then most of the large TV networks blocked Google TV as well making the device much less useful.

Dear Logitech: The Revue Is Overpriced

Dear Logitech: The Revue Is Overpriced

I’m a firm believer in Google TV. I think the platform has more promise than any other software running on set-top boxes today. With the right vision and some fulfilment on promises Google has made in the past, I think it’s quite possible for the company’s platform to entirely change the way we enjoy entertainment in the living room.

Logitech Says Nothing’s Wrong with Revue, Will be at CES 2011

Over the last few days, there's been a lot of rumors and speculation regarding Google TV. We've heard it being said that Google TV would miss CES 2011 altogether, while companies would be freezing their plans for the Internet-on-your-TV idea from Google entirely. Further, it was being said that Logitech was freezing production of their Revue set-top box, while Google worked on a new version. Apparently, that last bit isn't true at all. In a recent blog post, Ashish Arora confirms that there's nothing wrong with the Logitech Revue, and that they will, indeed, be showing off Google TV at CES next year.

Logitech manager says Android Market coming to Google TV in “very short term”

I bet that there were lots of you out there that were excited about the Google TV platform when it announced only to have that damped when the major online content providers like networks and Hulu blocked the Google TV devices from streaming their content. After that happened my enthusiasm for the Revue and other Google TV gear waned. I keep hoping that the block will end eventually and we can access all the content again. In the interim, giving me access to lots of apps might help make the Revue more interesting.

Logitech Unveiling New Line of Products for Google TV on October 6th

Logitech's partnership with Google for the upcoming release of Google TV has been known since its unveiling. It's been drilled into the psyche of many, though, with Logitech's release of their Lonely TV advertisements, which showcases a TV that misses its owners. And now that the teasing is over with, it looks like the company is finally ready to come forward and officially unveil what they've got planned. And it looks like they'll be beating Sony to the punch.

Under 1 million Google TV devices in use tips Google data

Under 1 million Google TV devices in use tips Google data

We all know that Google TV didn't do well in the marketplace. Some of that failure wasn't necessarily Google's fault. The content most people hope to watch using the devices was blocked such as Hulu and the ability to stream content from network TV websites. That said some of the fault was certainly the fault of the hardware devices that were out there such as the Logitech Revue and the software. Google's own data has tipped that there is a very small number of Google TV devices actually in use.
