Android M details the end of Nexus device support

Google's next version of Android is tipped to bring about hard end-dates for updates to Nexus devices. This means the Nexus 4 smartphone, Nexus 7 tablet, and everything in-between - all will have Google setting up hard end-dates for updates. As they always should have done. Remember back when we spoke about how Google should never have promised Android updates? The time has come for harsh realities to be spoken of plainly. This should very well be the end of (official) Nexus 4, Nexus 10, and Nexus 7 (2012) Android OS update support, but it may not be the end of security support for the lot.

Rumor: 5.2-inch LG-made Nexus phone in the pipeline

As Summer nears, Nexus rumors are starting to find their way to our doorsteps. We’ve already heard a flagship from Huawei was in the works; how believable that is, we just can’t tell. A new rumor i now finding its way to the light of day, and suggests we’re about to get a second Nexus device from Google. This second device is said to be developed in conjunction with LG, who were responsible for both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 handsets.

When you hear of Windows Phone, you usually immediately think of formerly Nokia now Microsoft Lumia devices. That said, there are some hidden treasures in this corner of Microsoft's world, like the HTC One M8 with Windows launched last year. There are also quite a number of device makers that have one or two Windows Phones in their roster, and it seems that LG will be adding to that growing list. A new Windows Phone from the Korean OEM has been spotted and it will be heading to Verizon at a yet unknown time.

Nexus 5 back in stock at Google Play

This week Google has slapped the naysayers with a re-stock of their LG-made Nexus 5 smartphone. This device has previously been offered in Black, White, and "Red", but it'll be appearing now in Black only. This device will be available in 16GB internal storage size and 32GB internal storage size, with applicable pricing to match. This device sits alongside the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 as Google's three-smart-device lineup. All other smartphones and tablets, Google Play Edition and everything, are gone - probably for good.

This week Google has released its yearly run-down of what's been popular in search terms over the past 12 months. This 2014 Year in Search was topped - above all else - by Robin Williams, whose life ended in August of this year. Searching for Robin Williams was followed by searches for "World Cup", then Ebola, then Malaysia Airlines and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Flappy Bird, Conchita Wurst, and ISIS. As for the break-down into categories, Google sorted out People, Athletes, Consumer Electronics, Global News, Google Doodles of 2014, "Loss", World Cup Matches, and YouTube Videos.

There are a lot of fans of Android out there waiting to get hands on the Nexus 6 smartphone with Android 5.0 onboard. That device isn't shipping just yet, but availability is being announced. Google recently announced that the smartphone will be available in 12 more countries. Despite "availability" in those countries, the device isn’t available to ship.
