LG hasn't always been known of releasing strange looking phones, but chalk it up to the BL40 to take that prize, and wear the belt proudly. There is something to gain from having an elongated screen, sure, like watching videos on your new-fangled device, but we can't help but wonder about every day use. We're still waiting for LG's Q3 2009 launch of the BL40 "Chocolate" phone, so until then we'll have to make do with stolen time and sneaky glimpses of the elongated touchscreen featurephone.  Dan from Mobiles dropped us a line to let us know that they had just such a video, showing the BL40's S-Class UI and navigating through the various multimedia features.

LG BL40 “New Chocolate” gets official: launches Q3

The first official information about the BL40 "New Chocolate" feature-phone from LG has emerged, complete with several glossy shots of the 21:9 aspect touchscreen device.  As expected, the BL40 has a 4.0-inch 800 x 345 "cinema-like" display, which LG suggest is ideal for viewing full-width webpages without zooming.  Elsewhere, the company has introduced a "Dual Screen UI" which splits the display in two for showing multiple content-types simultaneously.

LG BL40 Black Label featurephone preview video leaks

Last week we berated LG for rolling out another tired teaser campaign for their latest Chocolate-series device; today we're feeling a little more accommodating, having been sent a teaser video with a whole lot more promise.  According to the footage, the fourth-gen LG Black Label series device - tipped to be the BL40 - will have a 4-inch multitouch display, 7.2Mbps HSPA, WiFi and full internet browsing in a deliciously skinny chassis.

Verizon LG Chocolate Touch spotted in wild: no BL40 goodness here

Images of Verizon's upcoming LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 have leaked, and it seems that the BL40's distinctive stylings were indeed too unusual for the CDMA carrier's tastes.  According to phoneArena, Verizon had two prototypes of their Chocolate Touch - one resembling the BL40, the other a more restrained design - and following focus groups decided to go with the somewhat mundane style you see here.
