Samsung S-Pen stylus could show up in tablets next

, Jan 25th 2012 Discuss [4]

Samsung is considering adding S-Pen digital stylus functionality to future tablets, borrowing the pen-input option from the Galaxy Note for larger models as it boosts data-entry methods. Asked whether Samsung saw the Galaxy Tab line-up expanding beyond mere finger control, "I think a pen interface continues to make a lot of sense across a number of screen sizes, like the larger is more obvious of those" product marketing manager Ryan Biden told Laptop. "That's about as specific as I can be without announcing a product." Read The Full Story

Polaroid Android tablet/eReader leaks

, Jan 7th 2012 Discuss [0]

Polaroid can't seem to find its niche these days - who can forget the odd camera-sunglasses and Lady Gaga partnership at CES last year - but it seems a tablet/ereader may be the company's next endeavor. Shots of the slate have been snuck out ahead of time to Engadget, along with the tagline of "tablet + camera" so that you don't think Polaroid has forgotten its roots. Read The Full Story

Kindle Fire gets Android 4.0 ICS port, stays relevant

, Dec 27th 2011 Discuss [2]

I've been messing around with a Kindle Fire for the past week or so as my good pal Marty picked one up pre-Christmas for the holiday stay up here in Northern Minnesota - it's been great but for the lack of Ice Cream Sandwich. That is to say, it's OK, but it's not the perfect masterpiece that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich would make it. Hackers have taken the reigns this past week and have made a port of the newest Android mobile operating system a relative reality here on this PlayBook form clone, making us once again wonder if it's worth the cheap, cheap price it costs. E Ink kicks LG Display out of high-tech display team

, Nov 25th 2011 Discuss [0]

Power struggles amid display manufacturers, as E Ink Holdings (EIH) apparently suspends its fringe-field switching (FFS) LCD panel production agreement with LG Display and instead shifts manufacture to rival CPT. FFS displays are a key rival to the IPS panels that LG Display and others supply Apple for the iPad, promising wide viewing angles among other benefits. In addition to ending the FFS production agreement, EIH will buy back bonds in its Hydis display subsidiary, DigiTimes reports, which LG Display had bought as part of its original agreement back in January 2010. iPad 2 price slash incoming insists analyst

, Nov 15th 2011 Discuss [20]

Apple's iPad is on the cusp of a price cut, analysts are predicting, to counter public perception that the iOS tablet is an expensive option in the slate marketplace. Low-cost rivals such as the $250 B&N NOOK Tablet as well as deeply discounted - and considerably less successful - models like the HP TouchPad and BlackBerry PlayBook are a sign of "a more realistic pricing approach" Goldman Sachs analyst Bill Shope reckons, MSNBC reports, warning clients to expect "near-term demand challenges" as consumers grow wary. Amazon boosts Kindle Fire production amid risky loss-lead strategy

, Nov 10th 2011 Discuss [1]

Amazon has ramped up Kindle Fire tablet production to in excess of 5m units before the year is out, supply chain sources have revealed, amid continued strong pre-order demand for the 7-inch ereader slate. Original production estimates were around 3.5m units in 2011, DigiTimes highlights, with that figure already being bumped once, mid-Q3, to 4m. However the loss-leading risk of the ebook retailer's advertising and media-sales supported model has been highlighted by a new teardown of the $79 Kindle that suggests Amazon loses more than $5 on every sale.
