Jawbone THOUGHTS puts PTT on iPhone

Jawbone THOUGHTS puts PTT on iPhone

Jawbone has outed a new iPhone app for use with its ICON Bluetooth headset, which allows for one-minute audio messages - complete with optional voice-to-text transcription - to be sent from the Apple smartphone. Jawbone THOUGHTS is a free download from the App Store, and in fact you don't need to have an ICON in order to use it; instead, you can record messages using the iPhone's own microphone.

If recipients have the app themselves, then the THOUGHTS message pops up in there; if not - say, if they're not using an iOS device - then they get a link to it via text or email. You can send messages to one or multiple recipients, a little like group PTT.

Jawbone JAMBOX Review

Jawbone JAMBOX Review

Jawbone is no stranger to Bluetooth and personal audio, after all their headsets have consistently impressed reviewers - ourselves included - but according to the company the new Jawbone JAMBOX is paving the way for a new category of mobile audio. Rival wireless stereo speaker manufacturers might argue with that, however, so is the new JAMBOX a case of PR hype above all else? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Motorola Oasis Bluetooth headset hands-on and first impressions

Motorola Oasis Bluetooth headset hands-on and first impressions

Motorola's Oasis Bluetooth headset has dropped onto our desk; along with the company's promise that it's the most comfortable we'll ever wear. Looking a little like a prop from Star Trek, the Oasis has a Voyager Pro+ style boom microphone and an over-the-ear battery block, but it's Motorola's testing on around 500 different ears that they say has given them the edge over Plantronics, Jawbone and others.

iOS4 Bluetooth problems reported: patchy connections & shoddy audio?

How's your Bluetooth?  We didn't notice any issues with the Bluetooth performance when we reviewed the iPhone 4, but it looks like others haven't been so lucky.  Multiple complaints (see here, here, here and here) have sprung up in the Apple support forums since the release of iOS4, either for upgraded iPhone 3GS handsets or iPhone 4 units with the latest OS preloaded, with owners describing sporadic connections, an inability to play music wirelessly and poor audio quality during calls.

Motorola Endeavor HX1 Bone Conducting Bluetooth Headset review

Motorola Endeavor HX1 Bone Conducting Bluetooth Headset review

The Bluetooth headset market has split in recent years, with the budget end of the market being served by low-cost, simple devices for $50 or under, and the high-end packing complex noise-reduction and DSP for $100 upward.  Into that fray steps Motorola, whose Endeavor HX1 headset packs military-type bone conduction in order - they claim - to completely vanquish background noise.  After the cut, check out the full SlashGear review and why we reckon the HX1 isn't quite ready for the urban battlefield.

BlackBerry Bluetooth Watch & Video remote gateway coming?

BlackBerry Bluetooth Watch & Video remote gateway coming?

RIM are preparing a number of new Bluetooth accessories, including a new headset codenamed "Alpha 1", an in-car handsfree kit and, possibly, a Bluetooth watch and video-capable remote gateway.  BlackBerry accessories VP Antoine Boucher sat down with the BGR at WES to discuss his department's latest wares, and they couldn't help but notice that he was wearing a Sony Ericsson Bluetooth watch; after some prompting, Boucher admitted that his team had modified the timepiece to display BlackBerry alerts.

These included alerts when new emails, BlackBerry Messenger messages, texts, IMs, tweets and Facebook messages are received.  When pressed on whether RIM was developing their own Bluetooth watch, the VP would only say that his team "are exploring many accessories that would surprise people."

Plantronics Voyager PRO Bluetooth headset review

Plantronics Voyager PRO Bluetooth headset review

You wait for a new high-end Bluetooth headset and along come two at the same time.  If Aliph's Jawbone PRIME is the jewelry-like fashion model, the Plantronics Voyager PRO is the suited business version.  We've already seen the Jawbone PRIME live up to its tech-packed spec-sheet; Plantronics promise just as much noise-processing magic from the Voyager PRO.  I've been testing it out on the busy streets of Rome.

BlueAnt V1 Voice Control Bluetooth Headset Review

BlueAnt V1 Voice Control Bluetooth Headset Review

Talk Bluetooth headsets and the two key names in the business are BlueAnt and Aliph.  The two companies take it in turns to hold the top-spot, each trying to outdo the other with noise reduction, added features and general audio quality.  For the past few months, Aliph have arguably ruled the roost with their Jawbone 2; now BlueAnt are back with the V1, flaunting a new level of user-independent voice control.  Has the headset market flip-flopped back to the Australian company?  We've been testing out the BlueAnt V1 for the past few weeks to find out.
