We need to talk about the 2016 Jaguar F-TYPE

Some cars at the LA Auto Show 2014 are all-new and clearly changed in their entirety; others, like the Jaguar F-TYPE R AWD look at first glance to have merely received a polish, and yet the differences are actually huge. For 2016, Jaguar has thrown all-wheel drive at its stunning coupe and convertible, but it's the new manual transmission option that will likely have enthusiasts really gleeful. Exactly how those new treats have been portioned out is likely to cause a few arguments, however.

2016 Jaguar F-TYPE R gets AWD to go jet baiting

Jaguar is adding all-wheel drive to its 2016 F-TYPE R Coupé, part of a range-boosting move that will see variations on the popular model double to twelve. Set to debut officially - along with the rest of the new lineup - at the LA Auto Show later this month, the new F-TYPE R will be good for 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, Jaguar says, and then romp on to a top speed electronically-limited to 186 mph. The big news, though, is the extra traction, which Jaguar tested by taking the new coupé to the Hakskeen Pan in South Africa and pointing it at a jet.

Jaguar F-Type coupe unofficially previewed (but you’ll have to wait until 2014)

Jaguar's striking F-Type may already be wowing drivers as a convertible months out from launch, but it's taken some premature patent digging to see exactly what the eventual coupe version might look like. The car company has previously conceded that a hard-top F-Type will eventually reach forecourts, but has played it coy on how close to the original C-X16 concept it might be. Fortunately for us, while Jaguar's designers may be tight-lipped, its lawyers are a little more open.

Shown so far clad in eye-mangling camoflage - as well as roaring round the racetrack, which you can see after the cut - the F-TYPE will launch as a two-seater convertible initially, with new petrol engines and all-aluminum construction.

Jaguar Project 7 crafts one-off single-seater racer from F-Type

Jaguar Project 7 crafts one-off single-seater racer from F-Type

Jaguar's F-Type is arguably enough sports car for most, but that hasn't stopped the British big cat company from crafting a one-off, single seater racer variant, Jaguar Project 7, to take to the track at Goodwood this year. Described as a "project study" led by Jaguar Director of Design Ian Callum, Project 7 re-clads the F-Type in a new aluminum body with a bespoke carbon-fiber aero-kit, borrowing stylistic hints from the classic D-type, but throwing a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine tuned for 550 PS and 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
