iPhone 5c Review

iPhone 5c Review

Could the iPhone 5c be the most misunderstood iPhone so far? From early whispers of a budget model for emerging markets, though chatter of a new entry-level phone, the iPhone 5c in fact slots right in the middle of Apple's range, relegating last year's flagship to early retirement and leaving the iPhone 4S to survive another day. It also borrows some color from the iPod line, not to mention launching with iOS 7 and a case material we've not seen since the days of the 3GS. So, plastic fantastic? Read on as we put the iPhone 5c through its paces in the full SlashGear review.

iPhone 5 discontinued: where did they all go?

iPhone 5 discontinued: where did they all go?

Earlier this week Apple held an event in which they changed their model for releasing iPhones, replacing the until-recently standard hero device iPhone 5 instead of just bumping it down a notch in the pricing structure. In comes the iPhone 5s as the hero, and the iPhone 5c to take the second tier. But here's the kicker: even though Apple has discontinued the iPhone 5, there's certainly still a massive amount of unsold stock out there in the wild. So where did they all go?

iPod touch, nano, shuffle “Space Gray” means no Autumn reboot

iPod touch, nano, shuffle “Space Gray” means no Autumn reboot

It would appear that a reboot of each of the iPod devices graced with color have been given a shade change this week thanks to the iPhone 5s. The iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle have been given "Space Gray" to match the iPhone 5s' newest tone. This suggests that while past years have seen a music-centric event reboot the likes of the iPod touch and/or the iPod nano or shuffle, we may see just the iPad and iPad mini given a new generation of hardware.

iPhone 5C hands-on

iPhone 5C hands-on

We've not seen a plastic iPhone since the 3GS, but the iPhone 5C wants to prove that the durable, easily molded material is long overdue a revival. Launched alongside the iPhone 5S this morning, and taking the spot in the midrange that we'd expected to see the iPhone 5 demoted to, the polycarbonate 5C uses the same 4-inch Retina display screen as the 5S but trims some of the other specifications to reach a $99 (on-contract) price point. Read on for some first-impressions.

iPhone 5S and 5C rumor round-up

iPhone 5S and 5C rumor round-up

Tomorrow an Apple event will play host to the launch of what's expected to be more than one new iPhone device as well as the formal public release of iOS 7. This mobile operating system update to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch device family was introduced earlier this year at Apple's yearly developers conference WWDC. The devices Apple is expected to unveil are both the iPhone 5S - an incremental update to the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 5C - the plastic-backed so-called "budget" device rumored for many moons, with bright colors all around.

Visualizing the iPhone Color

Visualizing the iPhone Color

Though when this article is being written and published, we're not certain of what the next iPhone will be called, it does seem quite likely that there'll be a version with a plastic back cover in a variety of colors. This device has been code-named iPhone 5C in the tech news circuit, and may very well be called the iPhone Color when revealed at an event tentatively scheduled (not Apple official quite yet) for the 10th of September. So what's this plastic iPhone all about?

It's been confirmed this morning that Apple retail stores will be launching their first iPhone trade-in program today. This program will allow iPhone owners to bring in gently used iPhones to Apple retail locations to receive credit at the Apple store that'll be good for use in purchase of a new iPhone model. This trade-in program is said to be good only with a new cellular contract in-hand - that is, you can't just head in to an Apple store and expect to leave with an Apple gift card.

iPhone 5S leaked in full with new “graphite” color

The iPhone is rumored to come in three colors so far: white, black, and gold. But wait -- there seems to be another color making the rumor rounds. A grey, graphite, or gunmetal (whatever you want to call it) color for the iPhone 5S has leaked, pointing to the possibility of the new Apple phone getting four colors.
