iPhone 5 and iPod touch panels leaked

, May 22nd 2012 Discuss [0]

Several of what appear very much to be iPhone 5 hardware components have been leaked today by a photographer showing what they say will be near-final pieces of the next-generation smartphone. The iPhone 5, also known at this point as The New iPhone, has been shown here to be working with a 3.95-inch display and are apparently identical to what the next iPod touch will be working with as well. These photos are accompanied by several photos of the camera components that are said to be set for the interiors of both devices as well. Read The Full Story

iPhone 5 launch safe despite Qualcomm 28nm delays claims analyst

, May 21st 2012 Discuss [0]

Apple's next-gen iPhone launch plans won't be waylaid by Qualcomm's 28nm chip shortages, analysts believe, with the iPhone 5 still on track for a predicted October debut. "The bottom line is that we remain comfortable with an October iPhone 5 launch despite the reported 28nm chip shortage at Qualcomm" Apple-obsessed Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster wrote in an investor note today, Apple Insider reports, with suggestions that the Cupertino company could rely on its "favored inventory status" to ensure sufficient supply. iPhone 5 release imminent as 4 stock drops

, May 17th 2012 Discuss [0]

Despite the method Apple used for massive iPhone sales at the launch of the iPhone 4S this past year, it appears now that the iPhone 4 will be exiting the show before the iPhone 5 hits shelves later this year. Several companies including Target and RadioShack have initiated a $49.99 sale price for the iPhone 4 with Best Buy joining this party just this week. Searches across several online sources (including Best Buy online) have yielded shows of low or no stock on the phone, this very possibly pointing toward the stock change that will certainly occur once the next-generation iPhone 5 hits shelves.

iPhone 5 production starts in June

, May 16th 2012 Discuss [0]

With the Summer season upon us, it’s the mobile world that we once again look to for the most surprises, especially from Apple with it’s upcoming iPhone 5, it being a “full refresh” season for the smartphone maker. Apple has for the past several years created a complete refresh of an iPhone, then an “S” version, then a complete refresh once more, this resulting in last year’s iPhone 4S and this year’s big jump into the future: the iPhone 5. What we’re hearing this week is that the production of this next-level smartphone will start with its displays, with orders already placed, so says the WSJ, for a 4-inch screen which will start to roll out this June.

, May 3rd 2012 Discuss [0]

Now that we’ve got our claws on the Galaxy S III for real, we’re another step closer to comparing it to Samsung’s biggest rival for the year: the iPhone 5. In the next-generation Apple smartphone you’ll find not just a step up in the selection of specification bumps you’ve seen today from Samsung, you’ll see a whole one-ness that encapsulates the smartphone experience. You’ll be wondering if that’s what Samsung meant today when they said that this Galaxy S device was “Inspired by nature, designed for humans” without a doubt.

Samsung Galaxy S III vs iPhone 5: pre-release battle

, May 2nd 2012 Discuss [0]

The next-generation iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III will be the two biggest and baddest smartphones on the market this summer. There’s no denying that. Unless you’re HTC and you’ve got the HTC One series with the HTC One X on AT&T and the HTC One S on T-Mobile, then you’ve got something to back up your claim that you’ve got anything to say to either Samsung or Apple. Thusly here is my challenge to you, Apple and Samsung – I dare you to make a more perfectly tuned smartphone than HTC has offered up here at the start of 2012. I dare you to take this game to the next level.

We know you paid for the whole seat, but we’re going to force you to use only the edge: an iPhone part supplier has what they claim to be the SIM card tray slot for the iPhone 5. Sure, the iPhone 4S might be the fifth-generation iPhone, and the part might bear a striking resemblance to the current SIM card tray, but there are some (extremely) minor differences to be seen. SlashGear 101: Liquidmetal and Metallic Glass

, Apr 20th 2012 Discuss [0]

This week there’s quite a bit of talk surrounding Apple’s newest iPhone model, likely to be called the iPhone 5, and its relation to a technology called Liquidmetal. Apple originally gained the rights to use Liquidmetal technology back in 2010, and it’s basically what consists of a mixture of nickel, zirconium, titanium, and a few other metals in an alloy which makes for a damage-resistant material like no other. The term Metallic Glass has, like Liquidmetal, been associated with the next-generation iPhone as well – this term is essentially a broader term which includes mixtures that cool from a liquid to a solid without crystalizing in a “nearly random” arrangement – Liquidmetal is just one kind of Metallic Glass.

Slimmer iPhone 5 tipped with new touchscreen tech

, Apr 20th 2012 Discuss [0]

Apple's next iPhone could well be considerably thinner than the current iPhone 4S thanks to more advanced touchscreen technology which integrates the touch sensors into the display itself. The switch to in-cell touch panels, so DigiTimes' sources claim, is thanks to the persuasive efforts of Sharp and Toshiba Mobile Display, which have apparently managed to convince Apple that their yield rates are sufficiently strong to warrant adoption.
