AT&T LG Optimus G Review

AT&T LG Optimus G Review

With the LG Optimus G, this OEM brings on its most powerful device by a long shot, with Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor inside and a 4.7-inch TrueHD IPS+ LCD display up front, this running on AT&T's 4G LTE network here in the USA. What we're seeing here is a device that's ever so slightly confused in its identity - with more power than it knows what to do with in a device that looks and feels fabulous, but is just a bit bigger and more slippery than a normal-sized human being will be comfortable holding. Perhaps this combination of looks and processing power are enough to convince us that LG has suddenly become as much of a top-tier contender in the USA as Samsung and Apple?

The iPad mini will be free: here’s why

The iPad mini will be free: here’s why

In a world where the cost of some technology is hotly debated and is completely dismissed for others, it only makes sense that Apple would release the iPad mini for free. I wrote a column back before the iPhone 4S was release called Why the iPhone 4S will be free - turned out it wasn't the iPhone 4S that ended up being free, but the iPhone 3GS - and that was indeed the first time any iPhone was offered up for free in a sales structure that remains today (with the iPhone 4 in that position at the moment). Apple will bring this structure to the iPad universe too - but it wont wait for its oldest models to fall into the $0 position to make it happen.

iPhone 5 ReadyCase “swiss army knife cover” blasts past funding goal

iPhone 5 ReadyCase “swiss army knife cover” blasts past funding goal

Now that the whole world is addicted to KickStarter-like programs such as Indiegogo, groups creating items such as the rather intense multi-functional ReadyCase for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S can jump in from a whole different direction. What we're seeing here is a funding effort that had a $15,000 USD goal, has already raised $58,740, and still has 21 days left to go to raise more. The product is a set of cases, one that works for the iPhone 5, the other that works with the iPhone 4/4S, both of them absolutely strangely wonderful.

T-Mobile iPhone again in the mix with “Unlimited & Unlocked” plans

T-Mobile iPhone again in the mix with “Unlimited & Unlocked” plans

It appears that the folks at T-Mobile are aiming to keep or gain a new collection of customers on iPhone 5 day - that being this Wednesday - with a plan they call "Unlimited & Unlocked." This plan will have customers bringing in their unlocked iPhone devices - of all kinds, we must assume, hint hint - with a lure of unlimited data in the mix. Whether or not they'll offer the same deal for the iPhone 5 as they are prepared to with the iPhone 4S and below is not yet known - what is known is that this is T-Mobile's biggest effort to date for working with a phone that they don't even carry.

iPhone 5 (N42) model appears with 4S price points

This week a tip has appeared noting several details on the next-generation iPhone, specifically on its price - that being the same as the iPhone 4S is now - and the model number. This iPhone 5, as it's currently being called, has been tipped to 9to5mac as being part of the iPhone N42 model line, this being the generation that does not work with NFC - this is in contrast the N41 model being tested earlier this year which has not made it to final production. The price structure of the iPhone 5 in model N42 is being shown as matching the current iPhone 4S in stores right this minute.
