iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

This week Apple has made a couple of moves in their iPad and iPhone collections available on the market that might not make a lot of sense to consumers. For the iPhone, they’ve added an iPhone 5c that works with 8GB of internal storage space - the previous smallest model was 16GB. For the iPad, they’ve gotten rid of the iPad 2 (the last model available with a 30-pin connector), replacing it with the iPad 4 (aka iPad with Retina Display and Lightning connector).

Windows Phone’s Cortana near shipped: Microsoft’s Siri onboard

If what’s said today about Microsoft turns out to be true tomorrow, Windows Phone users may be following the bouncing ball sooner than later. Foretold in 2013 by a lost Windows Phone, a personal assistant by the name of Cortana may be hitting the Microsoft software ecosystem very, very soon. This assistant has been suggested by The Verge to be hitting Microsoft devices "in the coming months."

Siri vocals recorded in 2005 says voice over artist Susan Bennett

Apple introduced its voice activated assistant software called Siri with the iPhone 4S back in 2011. Siri has been offered in each iteration of the iPhone since then and is widely used by number of iPhone fans. Previously, Apple attempted to silence voice actor Jon Briggs, whose voice is the default Siri voice in the UK when he tried to come out and say he was the voice actor.

iPhone 5S vs 5C vs 4S: battle for iOS 7 supremacy

iPhone 5S vs 5C vs 4S: battle for iOS 7 supremacy

As of this week, Apple has discontinued the iPhone 5 entirely, focusing instead on the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C, and the iPhone 4S. While it was widely expected that Apple would take the smaller display of the iPhone 4S out of the equation entirely, it would seem instead that the company opted for ease in differentiation between models. It's a whole heck of a lot more difficult to sell an iPhone 5S when you've got a nearly identical-looking iPhone 5 sitting on the shelf for a lower price, after all.

iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner may be this year’s show-stopping feature

iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner may be this year’s show-stopping feature

Where with the iPhone 4S came Apple's re-application of the personal assistant software Siri, it's been re-tipped this week that the iPhone 5S will be coming with a fingerprint scanner. This word comes from future-telling analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities, a fellow known for his prophesy-telling tips on soon-to-exist Apple products. This suggestion of a fingerprint scanner up front of the iPhone 5S lines up well with Apple's acquisition of Authentec just over a year ago.

Low-cost iPhone in Apple’s future as iPad mini succeeds

Low-cost iPhone in Apple’s future as iPad mini succeeds

As the next release from Apple approaches after the most recent change in Apple's approach with a smaller-sized iPad in the iPad mini, analysts have suggested that a lower-cost iPhone has become inevitable. What Mark Moskowitz and Gokul Hariharan of J.P. Morgan have suggested this week is Apple's approach toward a segment in the market hit by the iPad mini since its release last year. As the iPad mini took the middle-market between the $199 tablets and the $499 tablets popular last year at this time, so too will Apple move in on the mass market once more with a new lower-cost iPhone.

CIRP: Older iPhone models accounted for nearly half of all iPhone sales in Q1

Surprisingly, the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S seem to account for nearly half of all of the iPhone sales in Q1 2013. According to new research data from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), the older iPhones made sales that went neck-to-neck with Apple's latest iPhone, the iPhone 5. The CIRP discovered that in Q1, 14% of consumers purchased an iPhone 4, 33% of consumers purchased an iPhone 4S, and 53% of consumers purchased an iPhone 5.
