Why the iPhone will never be free

Why the iPhone will never be free

Back in August of 2011, I wrote an article entitled Why the iPhone 4S will be Free. As it turned out, the iPhone 4S was not "free" until the release of the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5S is "free" right now here in 2014, if you close your eyes and pretend you’re not paying for it in your monthly bill to your mobile provider. The concept I spoke of back in 2011 is dead, now, and I no longer consider said concept to be a possibility for Apple.

iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

This week Apple has made a couple of moves in their iPad and iPhone collections available on the market that might not make a lot of sense to consumers. For the iPhone, they’ve added an iPhone 5c that works with 8GB of internal storage space - the previous smallest model was 16GB. For the iPad, they’ve gotten rid of the iPad 2 (the last model available with a 30-pin connector), replacing it with the iPad 4 (aka iPad with Retina Display and Lightning connector).

Foretold in 2013 by a lost Windows Phone, a personal assistant by the name of Cortana may be hitting the Microsoft software ecosystem very, very soon. This assistant has been suggested by The Verge to be hitting Microsoft devices "in the coming months."

iPhone 5S vs 5C vs 4S: battle for iOS 7 supremacy

iPhone 5S vs 5C vs 4S: battle for iOS 7 supremacy

As of this week, Apple has discontinued the iPhone 5 entirely, focusing instead on the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C, and the iPhone 4S. While it was widely expected that Apple would take the smaller display of the iPhone 4S out of the equation entirely, it would seem instead that the company opted for ease in differentiation between models. It's a whole heck of a lot more difficult to sell an iPhone 5S when you've got a nearly identical-looking iPhone 5 sitting on the shelf for a lower price, after all.

iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner may be this year’s show-stopping feature

iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner may be this year’s show-stopping feature

Where with the iPhone 4S came Apple's re-application of the personal assistant software Siri, it's been re-tipped this week that the iPhone 5S will be coming with a fingerprint scanner. This word comes from future-telling analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities, a fellow known for his prophesy-telling tips on soon-to-exist Apple products. This suggestion of a fingerprint scanner up front of the iPhone 5S lines up well with Apple's acquisition of Authentec just over a year ago.
