iPhone 5S Apple M7 coprocessor “knows” when you are sleeping

iPhone 5S Apple M7 coprocessor “knows” when you are sleeping

More information on the Apple A7 processor and its M7 motion coprocessor has appeared this week along with a set of suggestions on what Apple is working on for the system next. This system exists right this minute inside the iPhone 5S, bringing with it a bit of "always-on" measuring of motion data. This data is taken from the iPhone's built-in set of sensors, the same set as delivered in iPhones for several generations past: accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass.

iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S battery sizes tipped by FCC

iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S battery sizes tipped by FCC

Back on Tuesday during the Apple iPhone unveiling event, the technology giant talked about many different features of the new iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S. Among those features was a rather vague tip that the battery sizes for both of the smartphones have been increased compared to the iPhone 5. That was good news since longer battery life is one of the most desired traits of an upgraded device for many users.

iPhone 5s Touch ID hands-on: What we know

iPhone 5s Touch ID hands-on: What we know

As revealed this week, the iPhone 5S is set to be the first Apple device with its own fingerprint scanner (or fingerprint sensor, if you wish), working with Apple's own Touch ID technology. Apple suggests that this technology will only allow the information gathered by the sensor to be read and used by the device itself - no 3rd party developers aloud - and with this sensor you'll be able to log in to your iPhone with ease. Even as we first lay hands (or fingers) on Touch ID, this new bit of biometrics technology is set to start a firestorm in the mobile security world - even though it's technically not the first time a feature like it has been implemented.

Apple event video released: relive iPhone 5S, 5C, and iOS 7

While the team at Apple revealed the likes of iOS 7 for the first time earlier this year at their developer conference WWDC 2013, we saw this mobile operating system as well as the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C ready for release today. Apple has posted a full event video for the keynote this afternoon, allowing users who weren't able to attend the keynote the ability to watch it for themselves for the first time. This event, unlike some events in the past, was not livecast via Apple.

iPhone 5S and 5C unsubsidized, unlocked prices emerge

iPhone 5S and 5C unsubsidized, unlocked prices emerge

This week the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C have been revealed to replace the iPhone 5 entirely - making the iPhone lineup consist of these two devices an the iPhone 4S in a single 8GB edition. While the iPhone 5C has been listed for a subsidized price (read: attached to a 2-year contract) with AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon for $99 in its 16GB iteration and $199 for the 32GB edition, off-contract pricing has been sized up with two iterations: T-Mobile or SIM-free (GSM, that is).

iPhone 5S and 5C Cases hands-on: made by Apple

iPhone 5S and 5C Cases hands-on: made by Apple

In addition to making the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C official this week, designers at Apple have introduced a set of cases (official Apple-made cases, that is) for both devices. Both cases work with the most basic titles imaginable: iPhone 5S Case and iPhone 5C case, while their makeup is quite different. While the 5S cases move with a real-deal aniline leather, the 5C cases work with silicone exteriors and a soft-touch interior.

iPhone 5S vs 5C vs 4S: battle for iOS 7 supremacy

iPhone 5S vs 5C vs 4S: battle for iOS 7 supremacy

As of this week, Apple has discontinued the iPhone 5 entirely, focusing instead on the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C, and the iPhone 4S. While it was widely expected that Apple would take the smaller display of the iPhone 4S out of the equation entirely, it would seem instead that the company opted for ease in differentiation between models. It's a whole heck of a lot more difficult to sell an iPhone 5S when you've got a nearly identical-looking iPhone 5 sitting on the shelf for a lower price, after all.

iPhone 5S hands-on

iPhone 5S hands-on

We were expecting a flagship and Apple gave us one: the iPhone 5S takes the core of the iPhone 5 and refines it even further, adding biometric security, a speedy new processor, and new camera features both in software and hardware. The iOS 7 smartphone now has some competition from within its own range, however, with the iPhone 5C aiming for the midrange, so does the iPhone 5S hold up to scrutiny? In the aftermath of the new handset's launch, we grabbed some hands-on time to see what makes it special.
