Fame has its price, making you a bigger target than the kid down the street, as exemplified by this latest demonstration involving the newly released iPhone 5s and its much advertised fingerprint sensor. Hackers from Germany's Chaos Computing Club (CCC) have shown how they were able to deceive Apple's latest security feature into believing they're someone they're not.

Why the gold iPhone 5s is a hit

Why the gold iPhone 5s is a hit

Apple’s decision to build a gold-colored iPhone 5s is about more than just offering another color to consumers. For one thing, the margins are quite high on the device, and the more colors it offers, the more money it can make. But there’s more to the gold iPhone than meets the eye at first blush: it’ll be the bestselling iPhone yet.

As history has proven, Apple’s customers really, really like when the company delivers new colors to its handsets. When Apple started selling the white iPhone, for example, it became an immediate hit.

iPhone 5s Touch ID prompts US Senator security concerns

iPhone 5s Touch ID prompts US Senator security concerns

US Senator Al Franken has waded into controversy over Apple's Touch ID biometric system on the iPhone 5s, challenging the Cupertino firm to address his security concerns about stolen fingerprints and data privacy. In an open letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook - in which he's quick to point out that he himself uses an iPhone - Senator Franken highlights the fact that fingerprints, unlike a password, cannot be changed by the individual. "You have only ten of them" the senator writes, "and you leave them on everything you touch; they are definitely not a secret." iPhone 5s in gold first to sell out: reports of boosted production

Starting at 8AM local time here in the United States (that's local whatever time zone you're in), the iPhone 5s will be going on sale - and at midnight (this morning) the iPhone 5s in gold was the first to start flying off digital shelves. It's become readily apparent not only online, where at Apple's online store you'll find the gold iPhone 5s kicked back to a general October ship date, but in store openings across the nation (through mountain time, at this point) that the gold iPhone 5s is headed for short supply. Meanwhile those satisfied with their older-model iPhones appear to be asking line-goers and online sources in droves: when does iOS 7 come out? Good news: it was released Wednesday, two full days before the iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c hit the hands of consumers.
