Forget the iPad Air 2, I’m waiting for iPad Pro

As a self-proclaimed tablet addict, it’s easy for me to look at Apple’s recent announcement of the iPad Air 2 and get excited. After all, for a long time I’ve bought Apple’s slates (among others) and found some value in them each step of the way. I enjoy using my iPad mini on the road, but love to have the iPad Air in a bag when I’m traveling. Apple, Amazon, and Samsung have found a way to deliver great tablets that scratch an itch without too much trouble.

Report: iPad Pro not even a “thing” yet

Report: iPad Pro not even a “thing” yet

Remember all that chatter earlier in the year (and then a bit later on, and still later) about an iPad Pro? It’s supposed to be a 12-inch tablet, with many assuming the behemoth will take the place of the Macbook Air. It all seems so plausible, except for one thing: we don’t have it yet. A new report suggests the iPad Pro isn’t even close to being an actual product, as many would have you believe. In fact, it’s not even a “thing” yet.

Report: iPad Pro coming in 2015 (don’t hold your breath)

If you’re reading this on a laptop, specifically a MacBook, think about whether that screen would make for a good tablet. If the answer is yes, the iPad Pro may have had your attention before. The 12.9-inch tablet Apple is believed to be working on has been discussed for some time, but a new report suggests we’ll see it early next year.

Purported iPad Pro case leaks, shows 12.9-inch behemoth

Ready for a 12.9-inch iPad? Some alleged parts for an “iPad Pro” have leaked out of China, showing what look to be an early mold of the device. Metal in appearance, it definitely has styling cues found with current iPads as well. An Apple logo is also present, as is a troubling feature we’d hoped wouldn’t make it to a massive tablet.

iPad Pro 12.9-inch display tipped for early 2014

iPad Pro 12.9-inch display tipped for early 2014

It's not been a week since the Retina iPad mini hit shelves in the USA and rumors of the next-generation iPad Pro have surfaced. This comes soon after the in-store availability of the device known as the iPad Air, a name which suggests too that a "Pro" model may be in the works. This larger device would have a display to match its abilities as well: 12.9-inches by rumor's reckoning.

iPad Air sparks iPad Pro tablet talk

iPad Air sparks iPad Pro tablet talk

Almost immediately after Apple's iPad Air was revealed earlier this week, talk of the next generation began. With the name "Air" in Apple's notebook lineup, one of two different naming conventions, word sprung up that an iPad Pro could be in the works. While we've seen more than our fair share of leaks and tips over the past several weeks (and months, believe it or not) of the iPads that appeared officially just this Tuesday, word of the iPad Pro comes only from precedent.

Apple iPad prototypes revealed in court docs

Apple iPad prototypes revealed in court docs

Say what you will about the state of patent disputes in America these days. There are of course companies that specialize in securing patents for the sole purpose of suing companies who end up actually putting those ideas to some sort of commercial use, and then there are frivolous battles between competing manufacturers. And finally, the minority of cases involve actual theft of intellectual property. But regardless of the circumstances, it's always cool when these cases shed insights into the design process of a product.

Original iPad prototype photos appear via Jonathan Ive

It appears that as early as 2002, Apple had been working on what would eventually become the world's most famous tablet computer: the iPad. In some recently explored court documents made public in an Apple vs Samsung court case, it appears that not only did Apple Senior VP of Industrial Design Jonathan Ive reveal when he first began work on the unit known as 035, aka eventually the iPad, several photos were shown as well. What you'll see here is a very thick early vision.

iPad prototype sells for $10,200

Remember that iPad prototype from yesterday? It popped up on eBay showing one of the original iPads that Apple developed with two 30-pin connector docks, one in landscape, and one in portrait mode. The listing attracted a fair bit of attention, but the auction is finally over. In the end, the winner of the auction got to take away a little piece of history for the low, low price of $10,200.
