This week we've been hearing our fair share about this next-generation Samsung device known as the Galaxy Note 8.0, and today it's become clear: the competition is on for the iPad mini. While the iPad mini's display is 1024 x 768 across 7.9-inches, the Galaxy Note 8.0 has been tipped as 1280 x 800 across 8-inches - that's just about as close as it gets without perfect replication. We've also seen a supposed early press image leak from the likes of a fellow by the name of @Clasificatearg that, even if it's not straight from Samsung, gives us an idea of how similar this device will likely be to the Apple offering both aesthetically and technically.

iPad mini projected to drive AND cannibalize iPad sales in Q1 2013

As Apple's financial Q1 2013 sales report looms (set for the 23rd of this month), Rob Cihra of Evercore Partners has updated projections on sales for the iPad, iPad mini, and everything in-between. Specifically regarding iPad and iPad mini sales, Cihra makes it clear that a 56 percent year-over-year growth is possible comparing Apple's sales of tablets in their financial Q1 for 2011, with a 71 percent boost appearing compared to the quarter immediately before the one about to be stated by the company officially. These numbers suggest the iPad market to be booming, but due to the projection here of iPad mini numbers alone, we're seeing some devouring of iPad sales as well.

Apple's iPad mini could get itself a huge new ride, if Volkswagen green-lights production on the six-seater CrossBlue SUV concept shown off at the North American International Auto Show today. Coupling ample interior space with surprising efficiency given the bulk, thanks to a diesel-electric hybrid engine capable of 35mpg combined - or 89mpge in all-electric mode, albeit with a maximum range of just 14 miles - the CrossBlue looks to Apple's tinier tablet for its rear passengers, with dual docks for a pair of the iPads in the back of the front-row headrests.
