JetBlue is giving all crew an iPad mini to predict what gin you like

JetBlue will give every inflight crewmember an iPad mini to handle payments, figure out if the right people are onboard, and even translate foreign languages, the airline has announced. The 7.9-inch tablets - which JetBlue expects every crewmember to have in their flight bag by April 2015 - will run a custom In-Flight Service Assistant (IfSA) app, which will allow them to more readily sell you tiny bottles of liquor.

It's the main thing we complained about in our original iPad mini review, and it's the big thing Apple has addressed in its "iPad mini 2", the addition of Retina Display technology. The new iPad mini with Retina display looks just like the old version until you turn it on, at which point life gets pixel-packed. Apple's 2048 x 1536 resolution looks even more detailed on the smaller, 7.9-inch screen compared to the same res on the iPad Air's larger display, and that means more detailed graphics, smoother text, and an iOS 7 interface we kinda wanted to lick. Tomorrow morning an Apple event is set to take off bringing on a set of new devices starting, first and foremost, in the iPad arena. The 5th generation iPad is tipped to appear alongside the 2nd generation iPad mini, both of them ready to work with iOS 7 right out of the box. The desktop and mobile laptop environments are also tipped to be getting an update with the MacBook Pro lineup receiving 4th generation Intel Core technology (Haswell) alongside a final push for the Mac Pro 2013 to stores.

Retina iPad mini, iPad 5 without Touch ID amongst KGI predictions

The second iPad mini will include a Retina upgrade and the iPad 5 will not have TouchID as was previously rumored, according to KGI Securities analyst Mingchi Kuo. These and a bevy of other predictions were released today in advance of the Oct. 22 iPad event to be held in San Francisco. The event will unveil a series of updates to the various iPads as well as to the MacBook Pro.

We already know that Apple will be holding an event on October 22 where it plans to unveil new products to the masses. Apple hasn't said exactly what the products will be that it plans to show off on October 22, but rumors continue to insist we will see the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2. Only a few days ago a leaked image claiming to be the case for the iPad mini 2 showed that the next generation iPad mini would get a scant 0.2 mm thicker than the original iPad mini.]

Apple Oct 22 iPad event: what to expect

The next big Apple event will take place the 22nd of October and it'll be featuring several new pieces of hardware. Amongst these are a new iPad, a new iPad mini, and quite possibly a flow of new information on the 2013 edition of the Mac Pro and a set of new MacBook Pros as well - right in time for OS X Mavericks. This event was announced with an invitation with colorful leaves falling on an Apple logo that simply suggested that "we still have a lot to cover."
