LG Display iPad 2 panel orders reportedly halted over reliability

LG Display iPad 2 panel orders reportedly halted over reliability

LG Display has reportedly drifted from favor among iPad 2 display suppliers, after quality issues have supposedly prompted Apple to suspend new orders from the firm. According to DigiTimes' sources, LG Display's low yield rates and a tendency for backlighting units to fail during drop tests soured Apple's opinion, hence the order book freeze. You could excuse Samsung for being confused by Apple's affections, too; while in Europe the Cupertino company is busy securing injunctions against Samsung products, it's also reportedly increasing orders for 9.7-inch Samsung displays.

3D Apple A6 CPU tipped amid iPhone 5 overheat reports

3D Apple A6 CPU tipped amid iPhone 5 overheat reports

Apple's A6 processor could beat Intel to the market for 3D IC chip construction, using the complex layering system so as to avoid overheating issues of the sort supposedly threatening to delay the next-gen iPhone and the current Apple A5 processor. According to EETimes, a Taiwanese report claims TSMC will be producing 3D 28nm chips by the end of the year which, SemiWiki says, can see performance boosted by around 30-percent while power consumption drops by around 50-percent. That will also add up to reduced heat output.

Apple patent applications surface for stylus pens on iPad and iPhone

It seems that Steve Jobs and his minions in Cupertino are reversing on the long held beliefs that a stylus isn’t required if you get a touchscreen device right. If you go by that statement then Apple may have blown it since two more patent apps have surfaced that show Apple looking at stylus tech for potential use in its gear.

Sony CEO takes potshots at “burning” iPads

Sony CEO takes potshots at “burning” iPads

It's not just accidentally confirming that Apple is using Sony CMOS sensors, presumably for the iPhone 5, that CEO Howard Stringer has been doing; the outspoken exec also spent some time taking pot-shots at his rivals. On stage with the WSJ's Walt Mossberg at an event earlier this week, Stringer cautioned an iPad owner in the audience to "be careful it doesn’t burn you if you wave it around" in what was seemingly a bizarre reference to Apple devices overheating.
