The never clam sea of Apple rumors has kicked up again today. According to sources Apple is now in the inventory control mode for the iPad 2 getting prepped for a new version of the iPad to hit next year. The tightening of inventory by Apple could affect the screen shipment numbers for panel suppliers that make the 9.7-inch screens the iPad 2 uses.

iPad 2 price slash incoming insists analyst

iPad 2 price slash incoming insists analyst

Apple's iPad is on the cusp of a price cut, analysts are predicting, to counter public perception that the iOS tablet is an expensive option in the slate marketplace. Low-cost rivals such as the $250 B&N NOOK Tablet as well as deeply discounted - and considerably less successful - models like the HP TouchPad and BlackBerry PlayBook are a sign of "a more realistic pricing approach" Goldman Sachs analyst Bill Shope reckons, MSNBC reports, warning clients to expect "near-term demand challenges" as consumers grow wary.

It's not just Apple's new MacBook Pro range that the company has revealed today: there's also a refresh of the iPad 2 Smart Covers to take your fancy. iPad 2 Smart Cover unlock hack identified

iPad 2 Smart Cover unlock hack identified

A security flaw allowing unofficial access to certain iPad 2 apps, even when the tablet is PIN-locked, has been identified, using Apple's own Smart Cover to bypass the protection. The loophole, spotted by Apfeltalk, relies on Apple's Smart Cover unlocking system, which wakes the iPad 2 when opened: when the right combination of button presses and other steps are followed, that can also leave the tablet open to partial use.

Colbert sends final goodbye to Jobs on iPad 2 he gave him, for free

It's been undeniably heartwarming to see the outpouring of love and remembrance for Steve Jobs who passed early this week, and today (or last night, rather), one of his biggest fans and greatest allies added to that pile of appreciation with a short segment. In this segment you'll see Colbert show the excellent experience he had with Apple and their intelligent offering of free product to him over the years as well as a personal email Jobs sent to him the night after he showed off his iPad 2, the first iPad 2 owned by a non-Apple-employee, mind you, at the Grammys.

Target Android tablet selection lifted above Apple’s iPad 2

Target Android tablet selection lifted above Apple’s iPad 2

This week Target will be evolving their mobile selection in several places, most notably in the tablet department, where Android tablets will be much closer to the smartphone selection than the iPad 2. For those of you that follow my analytics of the Target department store chain (whose home is right here in sunny Minnesota), you know that I've had more than one conniption fit over both the placement of Android tablets and the arrangement of their entire mobile section in general. Just this morning while picking up some random oddities, I noticed that big red may well have heard my siren call: the Android tablets are now less than 10 feet away from the smartphones.

Cygnett iPad 2 / iPhone 4 cases UrbanShield, WorkMate Pro, and Lavish Earth Reviews

It's not often that we cover cases for any sort of device, especially Apple products, not because they don't deserve coverage of course, but because there's just so darn many of them out there! Every once in a while there's a group that brings a combination of materials and form, though, that we just cannot resist giving a little extra time and a few words to. Today that attention belongs to Cygnett, an Australian-based company that will be launching their first wave of products in the USA this season, starting with the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2. Take a peek at brushed aluminum, polycarbonate, and leather-styled coverings for all your iDevice covering needs!

LG Display iPad 2 screen shipments return to previous levels

LG Display iPad 2 screen shipments return to previous levels

Back in August, we reported that that shipments of LG Display iPad 2 LCDs had been reduced apparently over concerns of reliability on Apple's part. The LG screens were reportedly not faring well in Apple's drop tests and had the annoying tendency for the backlights to fail. That means Apple reduced orders from LGD until the company could find the issue and fix it. It seems that LG Display has found and fixed the problem at this point.
