iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

iPhone 5c 8GB and iPad 2 replacement: why moving sideways works

This week Apple has made a couple of moves in their iPad and iPhone collections available on the market that might not make a lot of sense to consumers. For the iPhone, they’ve added an iPhone 5c that works with 8GB of internal storage space - the previous smallest model was 16GB. For the iPad, they’ve gotten rid of the iPad 2 (the last model available with a 30-pin connector), replacing it with the iPad 4 (aka iPad with Retina Display and Lightning connector).

iPad 2 said to be discontinued: non-Retina nearly gone

Apple's second-generation iPad (and the last to sport a number) appears to be ramping down this season. After almost three years of being sported and sold by Apple, the company has apparently seen the sales of the iPad 2 go down to a point where they're ready to retire it. At the moment this iPad is the second least-costly iPad available at Apple, beaten only by the 16GB Wi-fi iPad mini (without Retina display).

DISH will loan iPad 2 tablets to Southwest passengers on select flights

Earlier this year we mentioned that DISH and Southwest Airlines had teamed up to bring free live television and on-demand services to all Wi-Fi equipment Southwest flights. The inaugural flight for the service saw DISH hand out free iPad tablets to passengers so they can enjoy the service. Being able to watch DISH programming during the flight is much better than having to endure whatever movie the airline happens to choose for the flight.

iPad Mini appears in Apple code as iPad 2 redux

iPad Mini appears in Apple code as iPad 2 redux

Instapaper creator Marco Arment is reporting that he has discovered references to two new iPads in Instapaper's device stats: iPad2,5 and iPad2,6. He's never seen these devices before, and he's thinking that they might be references to the long-rumored iPad Mini. Of course, he also points out that these entries could have been faked by hackers, but he doesn't think that's likely, and makes the case for the iPad Mini pretty well.

Moshi iGlaze Versacover for iPad 2 and 3 hands-on

This week at CTIA 2012 we've caught up with Moshi, also known as the "purveyor of electronics fashion" to see what new accessories they had on hand for the whole Apple world and beyond. We got to look at several new items from the group including the iGlaze Versacover for iPad, a lovely pair of earbuds by the name of Vortex Pro, and a brand new USB cord for your iPhone. First and foremost though here we want to take a look at the Versacover, a magnetic flip-cover for the front of your iPad 2 or iPad 3rd generation device that's what very much appears to be a next-level design for the discerning iPad owner.

32nm iPad 2 brings improved battery life

32nm iPad 2 brings improved battery life

If you didn’t want to drop the full $499 on the new iPad but wanted the Apple experience, the $399 iPad 2 wasn’t a bad choice at all. The iPad 2 housed a dual-core 1Ghz processor based on a 45nm chip, and Apple took the opportunity to test out a new 32nm chip with the reduced price iPad 2. How does it hold up? Performance is the same, but as it turns out, battery life has improved thanks to the more efficient CPU.

Why iPad 2 still dominates Apple advertising in 2012

Why iPad 2 still dominates Apple advertising in 2012

When the new iPad was released, we wondered how long it would be before Apple switched their billboard and bus stop advertising over to The New iPad - as it turns out, it doesn't appear that they ever will. Why is it that we're still seeing Apple displaying iPad 2 billboards across downtown Minneapolis, London, and San Francisco - aka across the United States and across the ocean to the UK? The answer is actually quite simple.
