It was all the way back in February of 2010 when the folks at Siri introduced their original Assistant app for iPhone, and just one month later when their company was acquired by Apple. This week (tomorrow, as it were,) Apple is expected to release its very own version of the intelligent assistant interface with its newest iteration of the iPhone, this newest version made to work hand-in-hand with the newest iPhone's powerful A5 processor. Siri co-founder Norman Winarsky spoke with 9to5mac this week about the soon-to-be-released software, calling it world-changing and making no effort to hide the idea that it's coming soon, very soon.

Apple's newest mobile operating system by the name of iOS 5 just keeps getting better and better it seems, today being sort of confirmed to be working with Siri technology, Siri being a company Apple purchased last year. Also in play is the fact that Nuance, a company that powers the voice-recognition aspect of Siri's current iPhone app, has recently released a separate app very similar to the current Siri app - this launching the idea that Apple's iOS 5 "Assistant" could be working completely on Nuance technology. Apple “Assistant” voice control system tipped for iPhone 5

Apple's long-anticipated voice control system for the iPhone and iPad could make its debut in iOS 5 or as an iPhone 5 exclusive later this year, if a leaked screenshot confirming an "Assistant" feature in the platform's settings is anything to go by. According to that image, passed to 9 to 5 Mac by a trusted source, and the iOS 5 SDK itself, Assistant will use a combination of on-device and cloud processing to recognize natural-speech instructions - such as "Find me more music by U2" - and be able to use various data sources to present the best set of results.

Apple has released the first developer beta for iOS 5.1, making it the first real update since iOS 5 was released last month. A minor update, 5.0.1, was released earlier this month with the goal of addressing user's poor battery performance.
