Intel Atom N470 gets early announcement

Intel Atom N470 gets early announcement

The existence of Intel's Atom N470 processor - a step up from the N450 powering the Toshiba NB305 we reviewed yesterday - hasn't exactly been a secret, but the company have seen fit to officially announce it today.  In a chipshot press release dated March 1st (looks like someone pulled the trigger a little early) the company describes the N470 as running at 1.83GHz with 512kb of L2 cache and support for DDR2-667 memory.

Intel Atom N470 comes with looser netbook spec restrictions

If you've dipped even the tiniest of toes into the tech world this past twelve months, you'll likely have noticed the cookie-cutter spec sheets for netbooks.  Intel and Microsoft's policies on exactly how big a hard-drive, how much RAM and other elements of a netbook's make-up have hamstrung what could've potentially been a hugely innovative segment into little more than a matter of aesthetics.  Unfortunately neither company plans to lift those regulations any time soon, but we're hearing at least that with the advent of the Intel Atom N470 the bar will be raised somewhat.

Intel Atom N470 1.83GHz Pine Trail chip tipped for Q1 2010

The Intel Atom N450 release date controversy continues, and this time there's a second processor that's apparently being brought along for the ride.  Despite Intel's protestations to the contrary, the 1.66GHz N450 - the replacement for the N270 chip currently found in most netbooks - is still on track for a launch in Q1 2010, where it will apparently be accompanied with a 1.83GHz Atom N470.

Intel Atom N455 and N475 quietly debut

Intel may have officially announced the Atom N470 processor today - well, actually they pulled the trigger early on Saturday - but that isn't the only new CPU at CeBIT 2010 this week.  As we've seen on netbooks like the ASUS Eee PC 1018P Prime, Intel have also launched the Atom N455 and Atom N475.  The two variant chips are obviously based on the 1.66GHz N450 and 1.83GHz N470 processors, but apparently add in support for DDR3 memory.

ASUS Eee PC 1018P spotted at CeBIT: Atom N455/N475, USB 3.0 & Bluetooth 3.0

Out of all of the leaked ASUS netbooks we saw last week, the most interesting was the Eee PC 1018P.  That's now been officially announced at CeBIT 2010, and the Eee PC 1018P Prime looks even better in photos than it does in renders.  Clad in brushed aluminum, bearing USB 3.0 ports and promising 10hrs of battery life, the 1018P Prime also gets Intel N455 and N475 processors.

MSI, ASUS, Acer and Lenovo prepping Atom N450 netbooks for January 11th

MSI's rumored plans to corner the Pine Trail netbook market this month look to have been put on hold, with the company named as one of four firms - the others being ASUS, Acer and Lenovo - set to launch Atom N450 based models on January 11th.  The new timescale apparently complies with Intel's launch schedule, with the N450 set to officially debut on January 10th, ahead of the Atom N470 processor's arrival in March 2010.
