Instagram has grown massively since it was purchased by Facebook. Facebook dropped $1 billion to pick up Instagram. Instagram has now reported some statistics since it was purchased by Facebook, and use of the application has grown significantly.

Canon EOS M spills samples plus promo for the Instagram generation

Canon has released sample shots from the new EOS M mirrorless camera, along with a suitably uptempo promo video positioning the snapper as perfect for the impatient Instagram generation. The new gallery of stills and video clips put the EOS M through its paces in portrait, macro and landscape photography, as well as in low-light video situations, and if we weren't drooling over the new Canon before, we certainly are now.

Socialmatic promises Instagram-for-real prototype by end of year

Earlier in the year, a design team called ADR Studio created a camera concept based off the Instagram icon used for iOS and Android. Now the designer of Socialmatic, Antonio De Rosa, says the concept could see a fully working prototype before the end of the year. De Rosa recently returned from Singapore where he met several manufacturers based in Hong Kong, saying that he had secured a partner that will bridge the gap between the concept and the manufacturing.

Instagram update makes use of Nexus 7 front-facing camera

This week the folks at Instagram have made it clear that they want to be on every Android device, even the Nexus 7 which does not have a standard camera on its back. This device is the reason Instagram has been updated to make use of front-facing cameras in its latest update, choosing the one camera this device has by default rather than saying it's not compatible with a device with no back-facing shooter. This application has also been updated to be able to share directly to Flickr in its newest bump.

Facebook’s own-brand Instagram rival prompts head-scratching

Facebook's decision to launch its own Facebook Camera app this week, despite having announced a $1bn grab for Instagram only weeks earlier, continues to confuse, with some suspecting Zuckerberg & Co. have finally lost the plot. It's been a shaky few weeks for Facebook, with Mark Zuckerberg forced to defend his decision to buy Instagram, a tumultuous IPO not helped by Nasdaq's technical issues and complaints of over-inflated valuations, and ongoing concerns around privacy. Now, replicating Instagram with a home-grown alternative, Facebook's mobile strategy is under the microscope again.

iOS Facebook Camera app launches in face of Instagram

iOS Facebook Camera app launches in face of Instagram

It appears that Facebook has taken the time to create their own independent photo application not unlike what they've worked on for Android (and quickly rescinded) just weeks ago. This application will be rolling out to fans across the earth soon with quite a few features extremely similar to what users of Instagram are already used to using. What you wont be getting here is shares within the app only (as Instagram can do) and sharing with other social networks all at once - this is purely a Facebook thing.

Facebook Instagram deal faces 6 month hold

Facebook Instagram deal faces 6 month hold

This week it seems that Facebook doesn't quite have full ownership of the photo taking and editing app Instagram - not yet, anyway. Before its $1 billion dollar deal can go through, the Financial Times reports an FTC regulatory probe must be completed - until then there will be a delay. The Federal Trade Commission has taken a "second request" after its first 30-day review of the deal, a review that at first happens with any deal in the United States that equals over $66 million dollars as a matter of course - and of course, there does seem to be some issues.
