Fake Shenmue 3 crowdfunding campaign appears on Indiegogo, gets the 0 dollars it deserves

If you've been paying attention to the E3 news this week, you've already heard about Shenmue 3's crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and how it's smashed records. Well, an apparent troll going by the name "Ryan Nets" seems to have had hopes that people wouldn't notice the difference between Kickstarter and similar platform Indiegogo, as that's where he put a fake fundraising campaign for Shenmue 3. Now, the good news is that the fraudulent project has already been taken down, and the better news is that no one fell for it, for it last had $0 pledged.

YotaPhone 2 enters the US via Indiegogo

After months of waiting, years if you count the first YotaPhone, the two-faced, and we mean that kindly, smartphone is ready to enter the US market. But now, you won't be able to get the YotaPhone 2 off your favorite carrier or from a retailer. At least not yet. Russian company Yota is perhaps still testing the North American waters and will be coursing the dual display AMOLED and e-ink smartphone via an Indiegogo campaign instead. Which should probably give them a more or less accurate assessment for the YotaPhone 2's demand.

Fonkraft modular phone cancelled by Indiegogo

Fonkraft modular phone cancelled by Indiegogo

Google's Project Ara brought widespread attention to the possibilities of a modular smartphone, but there's still quite a bit of waiting to be had on that front. We've seen more than one modular smartphone surface, including the previously detailed but still secretive VSENN, and latest among them was Fonkraft, a relatively recent modular offering being hawked on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo. Unfortunately for its backers, that campaign was short lived.

Now, they broke the record for the most funds ever raised by a single project on Indiegogo. They raised $5.3 million USD for Flow Hive. Flow Hive broke the previous record on Indiegogo of $5 million USD raised by Hour of Code which aims to teach 100 million students, who don't have access to computer science courses, how to code.

YotaPhone 2 to arrive on Indiegogo this spring

Remember the YotaPhone 2? It's the sleeker second-generation version of the smartphone with two displays: a regular LCD on the front, and an energy-sipping e-paper display on the back. We got our hands on the phone back in December, but it hasn't thus far been available to consumers in the United States -- something that will be changing this spring when it launches on Indiegogo. Those who jump on the crowdfunding campaign will be given incentives for doing so, but the phone is set to cost about $600 when it arrives.

Indiegogo launches Life site to fund personal projects

Indiegogo launches Life site to fund personal projects

Crowdfunding sites abound, with Kickstarter and Indiegogo being the two most recognizable of the bunch. Some of the services are welcoming to all types of funding projects, while others are fairly narrow in what can be posted. To lay any confusion about its own service to rest, Indiegogo has launched a new portal called Life that is dedicated specifically to personal projects in whatever form they might be -- funding for medical treatment, social efforts, and more.

Indiegogo tests crowdfunding campaigns with no time limit

Indiegogo tests crowdfunding campaigns with no time limit

When the crowdfunding era began online, there was an implicit understanding that each campaign would have a limited time to raise money, at which point they’d have to turn around and deliver a product or a service. Now, dismissing said understanding, Indiegogo will be introducing a pilot program in which campaigners can extend their campaign well past their campaign deadline.

Ubuntu Edge gets price hack to boost Indiegogo pledges

You might remember that dual-booting Linux and Android-powered phone that we discussed last month. It's called the Ubuntu Edge and it's hoping to change the mobile landscape in a big way. However, before it can do that, Canonical needs some funding help in order to produce the phone for the masses, and it seems like pledges are slowing down, for which Canonical is bumping the price down in order to get more people interested.
