The Daily Slash: September 28th 2010

, Sep 28th 2010 Discuss [0]

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of The Daily Slash. Tonight, in the news that we found around the Web, we've got confirmation from Microsoft that the "Chassis 2" physical design for Windows Phone 7 will be very similar to the "BlackBerry" style that we've seen over the years -- a candybar device with a full physical QWERTY keyboard right up front. And then, as usual, we'll take a look at what's happening around the R3 Media Network. Read The Full Story

Coincidentally published on the same day as we fell for the ThinkGeek iCade, Apple have applied for a patent describing a portable gaming controller into which a touchscreen device - like an iPhone or iPod touch - could dock into.  Apple reckon such a controller could have anything from game-specific controls, like D-pads and joysticks, through microphones and cameras, rumble packs, motion detection or even a second display. iCade iPad arcade cabinet release “a possibility” say ThinkGeek

, Apr 2nd 2010 Discuss [1]

Grumpy old man that I am, ThinkGeek's iCade retro arcade cabinet for the iPad was the only April Fools joke that I found vaguely amusing.  Promising, then, that the retailer describes it as "our most posted, tweeted and blogged about product this April Fools" and suggests that a real-world version is in fact "a possibility."  Geekosystem pestered ThinkGeek about the chance of the iCade - which looks like a desktop arcade cabinet, into which an Apple iPad slots - crossing over from comedy mock-up to legitimate device, and while there are several hurdles (not least Apple themselves) it's definitely being considered.
