Samsung has announced a new 10.1-inch, 300dpi PenTile prototype display running at a massive WQXGA 2560 x 1600 resolution, which the company says is headed to commercial tablets later this year. Although offering twice the resolution of most current tablet screens of the same size, Samsung's uses up to 40-percent less power; most interestingly - and of course not mentioned by Samsung itself - is the possibility that this could be the iPad 3's oft-rumored Retina Display. Motorola tablet tipped for Verizon FiOS TV support

Motorola's tablet plans with Verizon continue to gather steam, according to the FT, with the latest rumors from those "briefed on the plans" tipping a 10-inch Android based slate that would integrated with the carrier's FiOS digital TV system.  Although neither company has confirmed that the tablet is in development, it's suggested that the slate could arrive as early as fall in the US. Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar isn't just talking about BlackBerry tablets these days, he's also heard whisperings of Motorola getting into the sizeable slate business.  According to The Street, Kumar is warning investors to expect a Motorola rival to the iPad in November 2010, with a 10-inch touchscreen display and running Google's Android 3.0 Gingerbread OS. How foolish I’ve been. Five months ago I wrote that tablets had come of age, and even sifted my way through the line-up cherry picking what must-have features would make for the perfect device. A month later, in the afterglow – or should that be aftermath? – of the iPad announcement, I marvelled that, while Apple’s slate wouldn’t necessarily satisfy every user, there was nonetheless plenty of choice on the horizon for those given a taste for tableteering. Our analyst contributors wisely told me not to count my touchscreen chickens before they’d hatched onto the market, but I wouldn’t listen. I thought the iPad’s arrival would rejuvenate the tablet segment, but all it seems to have done is killed off any attempt at innovation.

ICD Gemini takes on iPad: 1GHz Tegra 2, 3G, multitouch & Android

Last we heard of ICD, the company were showing us their Tegra 2-based Vega and Ultra tablets at CES 2010; now they're back with details of a new model, the ICD Gemini, again using the second-generation 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra chipset and now paired with an 11.2-inch touchscreen (using either a resistive or capacitive panel, both of which support multitouch).  Android does duty as the OS, and the specs certainly don't disappoint at first glance: integrated 3G with voice functionality, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, together with USB peripheral support and twin cameras. Tegra 2 “serious issues” delaying Notion Ink, ICD & Compal tablets [Updated]

Bad news if you've been avoiding iPad hype and holding out for a tablet based on NVIDIA's second-gen Tegra chipset.  We've just heard from a trusted source that all projects based on the new Tegra chip have been delayed, and that none are expected to arrive on the market before late August 2010.  The issue - which is said to include a combination of hardware and software technical problems, as well as stability and Flash availability - will impact projects such as Notion Ink's Adam, the ICD Ultra and Vega and a 7-inch Compal tablet that had been expected to arrive in early June 2010.
