Hyperloop may be ten years out, team says

When elon Musk cooly dropped the Hyperloop on us all, the idea was as forehead-slapping simple as it was futuristic. For Californians, the reality of an uber-quick Los Angeles to San Francisco transit system has long been discussed, but eludes the public at large. Though not without its doubters, the Hyperloop was a pretty bright concept, and one we’d all like to have. That’s kind of the new thinking around the Hyperloop, as the team attempting to build it is aiming to have it ready in ten years, and criss-crossing the nation.

Hyperloop Alpha: Elon Musks’ high-speed train begins its journey in detail

After a bit of a foot-in-mouth mention of a high-speed transit system between the two ends of the country earlier this year, Elon Musk is today ready to bring a bit more heat to the very real possibility of this Hyperloop system. In a release made through Tesla Motors, Musk suggests that this next-generation system must be faster and cheaper to operate than either our current airplane system or driving a car. It must be, he suggested, far better than any other mode of transport for the journey it's capable of making - a fifth mode of transport.

Tesla’s Musk won’t build Hyperloop himself

Tesla's Elon Musk has no plans to build his controversial Hyperloop transportation system, which promised New York to LA travel in just 45 minutes, instead seeing the proposed high-speed project as an "open source" design he hopes others will pick up. Musk made headlines last month when he teased details of the Hyperloop - described as "a cross between a Concorde, a rail gun, and an air hockey table" - but, asked whether Tesla investors could expect a return on the system during the company's financial results call yesterday, admitted that he is too busy with the electric car company and SpaceX to build it himself.

Elon Musk isn’t keen on flying cars

Elon Musk isn’t keen on flying cars

Flying cars have been a staple component in visions of the future for as long as cars have existed, and while none are yet available at your local dealership, efforts are under way to make them reality. If you're of the more realistic sort, you likely view the prospect with a hint of pessimism: when a car stalls on the road, it merely blocks traffic -- if it stalls in the sky, it will fall on your head. Elon Musk seems to fall into the latter group, pointing out the different issues that would result from them.

Elon Musk bought $866k Bond Lotus sub and plans Tesla-power upgrade

Elon Musk was the buyer of the Lotus submarine car prop auctioned off earlier this year, and intends to fit a Tesla electric powertrain and make it truly perform on the road and underwater. Musk spent $866,000 on the iconic Lotus, having fallen for the car after seeing it in The Spy Who Loved Me as a child growing up, Tesla confirmed to Jalopnik, but "was disappointed to learn that it can't actually transform."
