When Huawei sent over their new and soon to be released smartphone set to debut in Asia in Q4 called the Huawei Honor (U8860) also known as the Glory, I was expecting another run of the mill Android smartphone for the budget crowd like their previous devices. I couldn't have been more wrong. The Honor offers a 1.4 GHz processor, Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread, an HDR capable 8 megapixel camera and a huge battery. I quickly realized this was a much better phone than I'd thought. Now that I've had some time with it here's my thoughts.

Huawei Vision pairs Gingerbread with HTC and Samsung style [Update: Price]

Huawei, so far, has been content to push out low-cost Android smartphones and the odd tablet; now it seems the company has set its sights far higher. The Huawei Vision pairs a 3.7-inch touchscreen with Qualcomm's 1GHz MSM8255 processor, 512MB of RAM and 2GB of ROM, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread in an HTC-style unibody chassis that will be available in silver, rose gold and charcoal.

Huawei MediaPad Dual-Core Honeycomb Tablet Gets Sneak Peek

Huawei is becoming known for providing low-cost alternatives to pricey smartphones and tablets. We got a chance to play with Huawei's IDEOS S7 Slim, which was a 7-inch tablet running on Android 2.2 priced below the $300 mark. And now, it looks like they are readying a new dual-core Huawei MediaPad that was codenamed the S7 Pro back at MWC 2011 by unleashing a new teaser video. Watch after the cut.

We had another beautiful week in the geek neighborhood last week and it's time to run down some of the most important stories over the last week in this edition of the SlashGear Week in Review. Windows Phone 7 went on sale in the US on Monday. Four GSM only devices landed with CDMA phones not coming to the US until early 2011. A cool looking Mintpass tablet with dual-screens was tipped to land in 2011. The coolest feature may not be the dual screens, but the dual-boot OS that the tablet will offer with Windows 7 and Android.

First, there's a lot of ports, ROMS, and hacks flying around the smartphone world on a day-to-day, but today there was a rather important one surfacing: Android to iPhone. Like two rival gangs having a child together. No violence between them yet, but someone DID get shot today - a Galaxy Tab. In response, Angry Birds released 45 new levels, and someone records a UFO on an HTC EVO 4G. TRON throws a card into the hat with their 3rd giant trailer, iPhone's GLASSGATE ramps up, and all Apple handhelds grow a little tail. All this and more, today, on THE DAILY SLASH!

What's Slashin today? The Nook Color was released today at a very special Barnes&Noble special event. There were dancers, kids, old people, authors, and lots of yummy treats. Best Buy has the Galaxy Tab and the Huawei S7 on preorder, Barnes & Noble has the Nook Color on preorder. Viewsonic Android 2.2 tablet imminent?

Viewsonic's tablet plans have apparently been scooped by a talkative source, with Stuff.tv claiming that the company - best known for its LCD monitors - is preparing a 7-inch Android 2.2. Froyo slate for imminent release.  The unnamed tablet is expected to include GSM/UMTS connectivity, for voice calls and presumably data access as well, together with a rear-mounted camera (of either 3- or 5-megapixels).

T-Mobile 2011 roadmap reveals HTC Doubleshot and G-Infinity, more

T-Mobile USA's 2011 roadmap has leaked, and it's a smorgasbord of tempting telephonics. The smartphone roster, acquired by This is my next, includes reconfirmation that the HTC Sensation 4G is due on June 8, while the much-rumored HTC "Doubleshot" is expected to arrive on July 6 as the T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide complete with HSPA+, a dual-core CPU, 3.7-inch display and slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
