HTC EVO Shift 4G leaks ahead of 2011 Sprint launch

From one HTC "leak" to another; this time it's a mercifully full-fascia shot of the HTC EVO 4G Shift expected to frolic on Sprint's WiMAX network sometime in the near future. As we can see from PhoneArena's photo smaller-screen version of the original HTC EVO 4G, making up for that with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, it's also the first time we've seen the phone without its protective cover .

HTC Incredible HD leak is obviously engineered

Looks like HTC and/or Verizon have been caught trying to muster a little pre-holiday excitement for the upcoming HTC Incredible HD (aka HTC Mecha), with our duo of "leaked" shots yesterday part of a set of six different partial images of the new smartphone. Engadget, Gizmodo, CrunchGear and Android Central all received the same bezel shot, but then added to that with pics of the handset's microUSB port, camera, microSD card slot and power button respectively.

SMS bug creates Android messaging confusion

As if we needed another reason to be careful about our sexting habits, an apparent bug on Android devices is causing text and multimedia messages to be sent to unintended recipients.  Multiple Android users are reporting the fault on Google's support forums; the native messaging app on their phone - several models have apparently been affected, including the Google Nexus One and HTC Incredible - replaces the selected recipient of an SMS or MMS with a different identity, sometimes only showing the switch after  the message has been sent.

As I was in the middle of writing this month's column on Microsoft's Kin, SlashGear editor Chris Davies sent me a draft of Michael Gartenberg's column on... Microsoft's Kin. I was relieved to see that there wasn’t too much overlap; Michael’s column is on the Kin’s target market, and I’m focusing on changing carrier pricing structures. I agree with Michael’s premise: there is pent up demand for a social network appliance, and the TwitterPeek ain't it. My problem with the Kin is that we haven’t been given the critical piece of information that will determine whether it will be a success: data pricing.
