Vuzix have announced availability of the AV310 Widescreen Video Headset in Europe, together with the new AV230XL which uses OLED displays for brighter, better contrast images despite requiring less power.   The AV310, which was launched in the US in September, produces a 16:9 image equivalent to watching a 52-inch screen, and is 3D capable; the AV230XL, meanwhile, is equivalent to watching a 44-inch screen from nine feet away.  Both are compatible with the iPhone and iPod, as well as other portable electronics such as DVD players, smartphones and PMPs.

Ubuntu Touch to launch developer preview on over 20 more devices

Ubuntu Touch to launch developer preview on over 20 more devices

Last week, the Ubuntu Touch developer preview was launched on the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. The preview gave developers and users access to the core and shell apps of the OS, alongside many of your phone's normal features, like cameras, Wi-Fi, and more. The developer preview is of course still full of bugs and issues that make it impossible to use as a daily driver. Canonical also stresses that you're flashing Ubuntu on your device at your own risk, because there is the possibility of bricking your device.

SlashGear’s April Fools’ 2014 round-up

It’s the most nerve-racking day of the year for a technology publication editor. April Fools’ Day 2014, a day in which every story must be triple-checked (rather than just double-checked) for authenticity. This year we’re seeing not only jokes played on the public, but awkward copies of jokes made between companies, as well.

Samsung Smart Switch aims to be key to competitor defection

Samsung Smart Switch aims to be key to competitor defection

There's a software suite out there existing under the name Samsung Smart Switch that, if we didn't know any better, we'd think was a pitch from Microsoft for Windows Phone. It's not that smaller sect of the smartphone universe that collection is aimed at, however, it's Samsung's implementation of Android - and it's not a still-burgeoning operating system this campaign is aimed at, it's one of the most popular lines of smartphones in the history of smartphones.

Qualcomm asks: sled dogs or the bus today, ma’am?

Qualcomm asks: sled dogs or the bus today, ma’am?

The folks at Qualcomm have released a video showing a rather odd bus stop. This bus stop was embedded with a set of posters that asked users waiting for a ride to head to a webpage, from there asking them if they're bored, in a hurry, or otherwise in need of some general entertainment. What happened was no less than magical - if not completely off topic and wonderful - off topic if you count the HTC One release today as Qualcomm's biggest release, that is.

Android Hardware Rundown: 2012

Android Hardware Rundown: 2012

2012 was quite a huge year for Android. We saw the jump from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and then to version 4.2. Ice Cream Sandwich was a solid operating system, but Jelly Bean made it even better, adding new features like Google Now, better notifications, and even Photo Sphere. However, the software was merely just a vehicle for the hardware to ride on -- the devices themselves were what really shined this year.
